Job summary

Betashares is seeking a hands-on Technical Lead to steer a 4-6 person engineering team across AWS and Kubernetes. You will direct design, build, and operation of production services, while improving reliability, observability and deployment practices.

You will balance scalability and maintainability, review code, mentor engineers and drive delivery quality in a fast-paced financial services environment. On-site, Melbourne-based role.

Qualifications

• Demonstrated experience leading technical delivery for a software engineering team.
• Hands-on experience designing, building and operating software in AWS.
• Strong practical experience with Kubernetes in production environments.
• Strong software engineering capability, including system design, code review, testing and production operations.
• Experience owning or supporting multiple production services, including reliability, observability and maintainability.
• Ability to make sound technical trade-offs and communicate decisions clearly with engineers and stakeholders.
• Developed production services in Rust.
• Engineered AI-enabled software products.
• Worked in financial services or similarly regulated, high-reliability environments.
• Line management experience.

The successful candidate will work with the Betashares Direct core platform team to build our innovative pipeline of products and services across investing and superannuation. You will also improve existing software across our trading, cash management, corporate action, portfolio investing, and user management functions, including managing the deployment and cloud infrastructure of these services. The candidate will work alongside the broader engineering, operations, and product teams to architect and implement new backend services to support our ambitious roadmap of new features, with a focus on creating reliable, scalable, and secure systems.

The Technical Lead is a hands-on technical leadership role responsible for leading the delivery of a team of 4-6 engineers. The role focuses on technical direction, delivery quality, service ownership and helping the team make sound engineering decisions. The team owns multiple services in an AWS and Kubernetes environment. You will work closely with engineers and relevant stakeholders to turn priorities into well-designed, reliable and operable technical outcomes, while strengthening engineering practices across the services the team owns.
