Job summary

AECOM Australia Pty Ltd is seeking an experienced Technical Director / Design Manager for a major defence infrastructure project in Adelaide. You will lead integrated design teams across Australia and the UK, delivering complex, safety-critical outcomes and ensuring high design quality under NSQEP guidelines.

You will mentor engineers, contribute to program planning, and represent the project in senior client and safety forums. A Chartered or equivalent NSQEP capability is highly valued.

Qualifications

• Degree-qualified in Engineering or related technical discipline.
• More than 25 years' experience delivering complex defence/nuclear projects.
• Chartered status or recognised professional membership.
• NSQEP experience is highly regarded.
• Experience leading multidisciplinary teams through complex design and project delivery.
• Strong technical background in design management for safety-critical/defence infrastructure.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder management.
• Track record of developing high-performing teams and contributing to business growth.

Responsibilities

• Lead integrated design teams across Australia and the UK, delivering high-quality outcomes.
• Provide technical leadership across complex design processes, focusing on nuclear safety and radiological waste management.
• Guide design integration across disciplines and manage project risks to ensure delivery.
• Support the Design Lead with technical advice and program planning, representing the project in senior safety forums.
• Mentor engineers and specialists, developing NSQEP capability across the programme.
• Build trusted client relationships and identify opportunities for business growth.
