Job summary

AECOM Adelaide is seeking an experienced Technical Director to lead design management for a major defence infrastructure programme. Based in Adelaide with UK collaboration, you will steer multidisciplinary teams, ensure design integrity and safety compliance, and drive performance in a highly regulated environment.

Qualifications

• Degree in engineering or related technical field; postgraduate qualification preferred.
• 25+ years delivering complex projects in defence, nuclear or other highly regulated industries.
• Chartered status or recognised professional membership.
• NSQEP framework experience highly regarded; equivalent capability in defence/nuclear industries acceptable.
• Experience leading multidisciplinary teams through complex design and project delivery.
• Strong background in design management or safety-critical/defence infrastructure.

Responsibilities

• Lead integrated design teams across Australia and the UK to deliver high-quality outcomes.
• Provide technical leadership across complex process systems, with focus on radiological waste management and supporting infrastructure.
• Guide design integration across disciplines, manage risks, and support project delivery.
• Support Design Lead with technical advice, planning, and client/safety forums representation.
• Mentor engineers and build NSQEP capability and nuclear safety culture across the program.
• Build trusted client relationships and identify opportunities for project growth.
