Job summary

Upper Murray Seeds is seeking a Technical Assistant to join our team at the Research Station in Cressy, Tasmania. This contract role involves data collection from trial sites, practical seedling activities, and field irrigation and maintenance.

The successful candidate will assist the plant breeding team, handle fieldwork under challenging weather, and contribute to nursery operations and seed multiplication efforts.

Qualifications

• The successful candidate will have excellent attention to detail and demonstrate an aptitude for farming and hands-on research.
• Planning, organisation, time management and problem-solving skills are essential to this role.
• Knowledge of seed, fertiliser and crop protection products would be an advantage.
• A current unrestricted driver's licence and Australian citizenship are essential.

• Undertaking practical activities associated with growing seedlings, planting and harvest of our nursery and plant breeding site.
• Hands-on role in the care, maintenance, and irrigation of trial sites.
• Working in the field under often challenging weather conditions and undertaking manual handling and lifting >10kg
• Hands-on role in cutting and measuring pasture dry matter trials.
• Assist in the establishment and maintenance of glasshouse seed multiplication.
• Practically assist the plant breeding team to ensure the success of breeding and trial programs.
