Job summary

TAFE NSW Dubbo campus is seeking a Technical Assistant for the Automotive Light section. You will prepare the workshop, manage materials and equipment, and support teaching staff to deliver practical automotive training.

The role requires hands-on automotive experience, trouble-free tool operation, and reliable stock control. It is a permanent part-time position (34.5 hours/week across 41 weeks/year) commencing January 2027, located at Dubbo campus.

Qualifications

• Hands-on automotive industry experience and a strong knowledge of workshop tools and equipment.
• Demonstrated ability to service, clean, repair and safely operate workshop machinery.
• Demonstrated administration and computer skills to support stores, maintenance, and record keeping.
• Proven customer service, organisational skills and ability to work with minimal supervision.

$82,918 – $91,525 salary package - includes base salary ($73,054 - $80,637), plus employer’s contribution to superannuation and annual leave loading (paid pro rata, based on part-year work schedule)

About the role

Join our dynamic Class Support team as a Technical Assistant supporting our Automotive Teaching Section, where you willbe responsible for class preparation, storing and monitoring supplies and producing, maintaining and servicing teaching aids and equipment to support teaching staff with the effective and efficient delivery of educational programs.

Duties for this role include, but are not limited to:

• Maintaining and cleaning the workshop, and preparing the workshop and materials ready for classes


• Performing maintenance, servicing, cleaning and routine repairs of workshop tools and equipment


• Stock management and supply ordering

This is a permanent, part-time part-year role, working 34.5 hours per week, during term time only (41 weeks per year) located at our Dubbo, Narromine Road campus.The advertised annual salary will be prorated to reflect the part-year work schedule.

About you

You have hands‑on automotive industry experience and a strong working knowledge of tools, equipment and workshop operations. Highly organised and proactive, you take pride in maintaining resources, preparing materials and supporting workshop readiness to ensure a safe, efficient and productive learning environment.

With strong customer service and organisational skills, you build positive working relationships and collaborate effectively with others while also being confident managing tasks independently. You demonstrate initiative, attention to detail and the ability to work with minimal supervision.

Essential Requirements include:

• A valid Working with Children Check (required prior to commencement).


• Trade qualifications appropriate to the role and trades area and/or relevant industry experience (Automotive or Heavy Vehicle).


• Demonstrated ability to service, clean, repair and safely operate workshop machinery.


• Demonstrated application of practical, administration and computer skills to support supply, stores, maintenance, warehouse related duties and record keeping or similar activities.


• Demonstrated customer service, organisational skills and ability to work as a member of a team with minimal supervision.


• As required, possession of or willingness to obtain prior to commencement of employment, the following:

Please note there is no requirement to hold an Electrical Tag and Test Certificate for this role.
