Job summary

Qualifications

  • Undergraduate degree in Mechanical Engineering or technical/trade equivalent.
  • Minimum of 3 years’ relevant experience, ideally within Defence or similarly complex environments.
  • Eligibility to hold and maintain an AGSVA NV1 (or higher) security clearance.
  • Strong communication skills and stakeholder engagement experience.
  • Ability to guide and influence technical teams.

Responsibilities

  • Apply advanced engineering principles and independently solve complex engineering problems under general supervision.
  • Represent KBR at technical conferences, working groups, and engagements, negotiating with engineers and officials to resolve project issues.
  • Provide high-level technical guidance to designers and engineers, offering trusted interpretations and direction.
  • Contribute to management of assets, which may include staff or budget oversight.
  • Perform additional tasks to support project and organisational objectives.

The Opportunity:

KBR is seeking an accomplished Technical Advisor to join our dynamic team supporting the Armoured Fighting Vehicle Branch in Redbank Plains, QLD. This pivotal role is suited to an experienced engineer or technician who thrives on technical leadership, cross-functional collaboration, and shaping technical direction across complex Defence programs. As a technical ambassador, you will provide expert insight that drives innovation, enhances engineering quality, and aligns technological solutions with organisational and Defence objectives. Your influence will play a key role in supporting long-term capability outcomes and ensuring technical excellence across our projects.

Responsibilities:
  • Apply advanced engineering principles and independently solve complex engineering problems under general supervision.
  • Represent KBR at technical conferences, working groups, and engagements, negotiating with key engineers and officials to resolve critical project issues.
  • Provide high‑level technical guidance to designers and less‑experienced engineers, offering trusted interpretations, advice, and direction.
  • Contribute to the management of measurable assets, which may include assigned staff or budget oversight.
  • Perform additional tasks as directed to support project and organisational objectives.
As the ideal candidate you will bring:
  • An undergraduate degree in Mechanical Engineering, or technical/trade equivalent (ideal background is someone who was a previous Army mechanic or fitter & turner).
  • A minimum of 3 years’ relevant experience, ideally within Defence or similarly complex environments.
  • Strong communication skills, stakeholder engagement experience, and a proven ability to guide and influence technical teams.
  • Eligibility to hold and maintain an AGSVA NV1 (or higher) security clearance.
