Job summary

KBR is seeking a Technical Configuration Manager in Australia to lead configuration control and data management across Defence programs for the Army’s armoured fleet. You will provide expert guidance, establish baselines, and ensure readiness and sustainment through lifecycle management.

The role requires a technical trade or Mechanical Engineering degree, 5+ years Defence CM experience, and strong collaboration with engineering and sustainment teams. A flexible working arrangement is offered.

Qualifications

  • Hold technical trade qualification or degree in Mechanical Engineering.
  • Minimum 5 years’ Defence-related experience in data and configuration management.
  • Experience with heavy armoured vehicles is highly desirable.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to guide technical teams.
  • Knowledge of Defence Configuration Management frameworks and Land Systems policies.
  • Experience using CM tools such as CMT‑L, Teamcenter, or ERP systems (JIRA desirable).
  • Well-developed documentation skills and experience with Technical Data Packages and audits.

Responsibilities

  • Apply advanced engineering principles to solve complex problems under supervision.
  • Represent KBR at technical conferences and engagements, coordinating with engineers and officials to resolve issues.
  • Provide high-level technical guidance to designers and engineers.
  • Manage configuration control processes across lifecycle, including baselines and audits.
  • Oversee vehicle data packages, configuration records and maintenance history for sustainment and upgrades.
  • Utilise CM tools and data systems to maintain accurate asset information.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to ensure data validates readiness and supports Defence requirements.
  • Conduct configuration audits and ensure compliance with Defence standards and policies.
  • Drive continuous improvement in data accuracy, reporting, and CM processes.

The Opportunity

Join KBR’s Land Engineering Agency as a Technical Advisor with Configuration Management responsibilities, supporting the full lifecycle of Australia’s heavy armoured capability. In this role, you will provide authoritative technical advice while ensuring effective configuration control and data management across complex Defence programs. Your work will underpin maintenance planning, capability upgrades, and operational readiness, directly contributing to the sustainment and performance of the Australian Army’s armoured fleet.

Working within a multidisciplinary Defence environment, you will act as a trusted technical ambassador, delivering expert guidance to enhance engineering quality, drive innovation, and align outcomes with Defence objectives. This position suits an experienced trade-qualified technician who can balance technical leadership with hands‑on configuration management, enabling informed decision-making and ensuring long‑term capability readiness.

Responsibilities
  • Apply advanced engineering principles and independently solve complex engineering problems under general supervision.
  • Represent KBR at technical conferences, working groups, and engagements, negotiating with key engineers and officials to resolve critical project issues.
  • Provide high-level technical guidance to designers and less-experienced engineers, offering trusted interpretations, advice, and direction.
  • Manage comprehensive configuration control processes throughout their lifecycle, including baseline establishment, change management, and audit support.
  • Oversee vehicle technical data packages, configuration records, and maintenance history to support sustainment and upgrade activities.
  • Utilise Configuration Management Tools (CMT), Asset Maintenance Planning System (AMPS), and stock control systems (SCPM) to maintain accurate asset and configuration data.
  • Collaborate closely with engineering, sustainment, logistics, and operational teams to ensure configuration data validates vehicle readiness and supports Defence operational requirements.
  • Conduct configuration audits and verification activities to ensure compliance with Defence Configuration Management standards and Land Systems policies.
  • Implement continuous improvement initiatives to enhance data accuracy, reporting capabilities, and overall configuration management processes.
As The Ideal Candidate You Will Bring
  • Hold technical trade qualification or degree in Mechanical Engineering.
  • Minimum of 5 years’ Defence-related experience in data and configuration management, preferably within the Land Systems Division.
  • Prior experience working on heavy armoured vehicles is highly desirable.
  • Strong communication skills, stakeholder engagement experience, and a proven ability to guide and influence technical teams.
  • Deep knowledge of Defence Configuration Management frameworks and Land Systems Branch policies, with a clear understanding of vehicle lifecycle sustainment.
  • Demonstrated experience using Configuration Management tools such as CMT‑L, Teamcenter, or ERP systems (JIRA experience is desirable).
  • Well-developed analytical and documentation skills, including experience managing Technical Data Packages (TDPs), configuration audits, and sustainment records.
  • Proven ability to communicate and collaborate effectively across multidisciplinary Defence project and sustainment teams.
  • Minimum AGSVA NV1 Security Clearance and Australian citizenship required to be eligible.
