Glen Eira City Council is seeking a Team Leader Public Health to guide Environmental Health Officers and deliver high-quality services across the community.

You will review policies and procedures, ensure professional conduct, and drive continuous improvement with strong mentoring and stakeholder engagement. The role is a full-time, permanent position based in Melbourne with a supportive leadership framework.

Qualifications

• Bachelor-level health sciences degree or equivalent with eligibility for EHP Australia membership.
• Extensive experience in Environmental Health field and public health legislation.
• Strong problem-solving, communication and leadership capabilities.

Responsabilités

• Lead and mentor a team of Environmental Health professionals while developing your leadership career.
• Undertake internal audits of Officer inspections and investigations for policy compliance.
• Manage difficult complaints and negotiate outcomes to ensure high levels of compliance with legislation.
• Review legal proceedings and liaise with Council solicitors to ensure proper evidence handling.

• Band 7: $113,176.44 - $126,783.28 per annum (depending on experience) + 12% superannuation

About the team
The Public Health team plays a vital role in protecting and enhancing the health, safety and wellbeing of the Glen Eira community. Working across a diverse range of public health and regulatory responsibilities, the team delivers services that help ensure local businesses, public spaces and community environments meet legislative requirements and public health standards.

As part of a collaborative and highly skilled team, you'll work alongside experienced Environmental Health Officers who are committed to continuous improvement, risk-based decision making and delivering exceptional customer service. The team takes pride in its proactive approach to public health, supporting a safe, healthy and thriving community while building strong relationships with residents, businesses and key stakeholders

About the role
As Team Leader Public Health, you will provide essential guidance and support to the Environmental Health Officers to deliver high-quality public health services to the Glen Eira community. You will ensure professional conduct, technical excellence, and outstanding service excellence across the team.
You will also focus on reviewing and enhancing public health policies, operating procedures and systems to guarantee efficient and effective delivery of services.

Other responsibilities include:

• Lead and mentor a team of Environmental Health professionals while developing your leadership career
• Undertake internal audits of Officer inspections and investigations to ensure compliance with policy and procedures, consistency and application of appropriate sanctions where required.
• Actively manage difficult complaints and identify practical solutions or negotiate positive outcomes with relevant parties to ensure high levels of compliance with relevant legislation.
• Review Officer legal proceedings and undertake case management when deemed appropriate and liaise with Council solicitors to ensure rules of evidence and legal practice are expertly delivered.

About you
You are an experienced Environmental Health professional with strong technical expertise, a sound understanding of food safety and public health legislation and a passion for mentoring others. You are ready to take the next step in your career and build your leadership capability while contributing to positive public health outcomes across the Glen Eira community.

The following is also required:

• Bachelor of Health Sciences (Environmental and Public Health) or equivalent including eligibility to be a member of Environmental Health Professionals Australia.
• Extensive experience working in the Environmental Health field.
• High level of technical knowledge for Public Health service provision.
• Communicates clearly and confidently, even when dealing with sensitive or complex issues.
• Ability to problem solve and think strategically to improve public health outcomes.
• Victorian Driver's License.
