Department of Education’s John Curtin College of the Arts (JCCA) in Western Australia invites applications for a Visual Arts teacher to join a high‑performing, fully selective arts college serving Years 7–12.

We seek innovative educators with strong practice across drawing, painting, sculpture and related disciplines who can deliver engaging Visual Arts General and ATAR programs while contributing to the college’s arts initiatives and student growth.

We are seeking to establish a pool of Visual Arts Teachers for permanent and fixed term, full-time and part-time vacancies which may arise during the 2027 school year. Appointments may be offered at any time for vacancies that commence during this period.

Role

JCCA is ideally seeking an innovative and accomplished Visual Arts teacher to work in a high-performing learning area within Western Australia’s only fully selective arts college. Applications are invited to be a member of a leading and dynamic Visual Arts team. The successful applicants would possess the professional knowledge and understanding to ideally deliver an engaging and relevant secondary school 7-12 Visual Arts curriculum to Gifted and Talented students, with experience in teaching Visual Arts General and ATAR (practical and written). We are ideally looking for a teacher who combines excellent pedagogy with genuine artistic expertise. We value teachers who ideally bring their own active creative practice, professional knowledge and passion for the arts into the classroom. Practicing artists are encouraged to apply with applications from painters especially welcome. The successful applicants ideally would be an exceptional educator who can nurture creativity, critical thinking and technical excellence through the design and delivery of a rigorous, contemporary Visual Arts program. Suitable applicants will ideally display experience to teach across multiple visual arts disciplines is desired, including drawing, printmaking, sculpture, painting, ceramics, textiles, art theory, criticism and art history. The successful applicants will ideally extend students beyond conventional classroom expectations through challenging and intellectually stimulating creative experiences. They ideally will support student growth beyond the classroom, in workshops and camps. Suitable applicants are welcomed to support the implementation of the college’s Business Plan, work and teach in a team environment, be committed to whole college approaches and initiatives and have a strong evidence-based approach to teaching. Ideally would adopt inclusive practices, focusing on student centred learning and building positive relationships with students, staff and the community are important components of the role. Suitable applicants would ideally be committed to developing curiosity, innovation and imagination in every person through inspiring minds and learning for life. Suitable applicants should ideally use their skills to contribute to the development and growth of the Visual Arts Learning Area and promote strong relationships with colleagues and stakeholders at all levels.
