Job summary

Yandelora School in Sydney region is seeking a Teacher Special Education to join our campus serving students with Autism and complex disabilities. You will plan, deliver and assess explicit, evidence-based learning and support personalised communication systems (AAC) and student wellbeing.

The role requires full approval to teach, strong collaboration with families, and the ability to adapt lessons to Life Skills outcomes.

Qualifications

• Approval to teach qualifications and/or experience in teaching primary to year 12 with complex disabilities.
• Ability to plan, deliver and assess high-quality explicit teaching aligned to syllabus and life skills requirements.
• Capacity to implement personalised communication systems (AAC) and trauma-informed practices.

Total Remuneration Package: Remuneration package valued at up to $156,253.00. Base salary ranges from $90,177.00 to $137,861.00, plus leave loading and employer's contribution to superannuation. Base salary rates above the minimum are available depending on experience.

Position Information

Yandelora School was established in January 2019. Yandelora is a School for Specific Purpose meeting the learning needs of 111 students in a broad community who have an intellectual disability, Autism, physical disability, complex health care needs, sensory impairment, mental health, and challenging behaviour.

The school is located across the road from a mainstream primary school which opens up opportunity for integration activities, and is close to a major shopping centre and public transport that enables appropriate access for life skills programs. Our school leavers who complete year 12 obtain a life skills HSC and are supported onto post school pathways to continue its learning journey.Yandelora school is recognised for its commitment to providing high-quality education for learners with complex needs.

Yandelora means "Meeting Place, a place of Peace amongst the people" and relates to a local area called Lake Yandel'ora. The place is where the tribal elders along the eastern seaboard would travel to meet, to end disputes and to organise trade and marriages. The name was given to the school to acknowledge the history of this very special place. The school emblem is the tail feather of the Lyrebird. The lyrebird is the totem animal of the Dharawal People. The Lyrebird is a gifted mimic and is able to imitate sounds and noises of other animals. At Yandelora School we like to use every student's unique voice to support them in their communication, so, like the Lyrebird we learn the voice or communication system of every student who attends our school to increase their access to personalise learning.

Specific Selection Criteria

Approval to teach qualifications and or experience in teaching primary school students Kindergarten to year 12 with Autism, Moderate Intellectual Disability and Severe Intellectual Disability.

Demonstrated ability to plan, deliver, and assess high-quality, explicit teaching and learning programs that are aligned to syllabus and Life Skills requirements, and responsive to the individual needs of students with complex disabilities. Describe your experience in personalising student learning and using data to monitor and measure student growth.

Demonstrated capacity to support the whole child through the implementation of personalised communication systems including Augmented and Alternate Communications (AAC), trauma-informed and self-regulation practices, and the promotion of student voice. Provide examples of how you have actively supported student wellbeing and enabled meaningful participation, independence and engagement for each student.

Demonstrated ability to build positive and effective relationships with parents, carers and families to support student learning and wellbeing. Describe your experience in communicating with families, collaborating to develop personalised goals, and engaging them as active partners in their child’s educational journey.

An unconditional full approval to teach is a requirement. If you do not hold a full approval to teach with the NSW Department of Education, you are required to commence the application process at the same time as you apply for this teaching opportunity.
