Job summary

Wangkatjungka Remote Community School is seeking a passionate Primary Teacher to join our team. The successful candidate will co‑lead the established Two‑Way Science Program with our Aboriginal and Islander Education Officer (AIEO) staff and deliver culturally responsive literacy instruction and a potential specialist area.

You will work closely with the AIEOs to integrate Western science with Aboriginal ways of knowing, creating meaningful learning experiences that connect students to Country

• Qualified teacher with current registration in Australia.
• Experience in primary education and culturally responsive teaching.
• Strong understanding of WA curriculum and Two‑Way Science Program.

Responsibilities

• Co‑lead and further develop the Two‑Way Science Program with AIEO staff.
• Plan and deliver rich, authentic learning experiences drawing on Country, culture and community.
• Contribute to literacy instruction and a specialist area aligned with school strengths.
• Build strong relationships with students, families and community partners.

Job description

This is a 36 month fixed term, full-time position commencing Term 1, 2027 with possible permanency.

The School

Wangkatjungka Remote Community School (RCS) was established in 1962 as Christmas Creek School. Parts of the original school remain today and are highly valued by both the school and the wider community. In 1990, the school was renamed Wangkatjungka RCS.

Our wonderful communities plays an active and valued role in school life, working alongside staff to ensure our students experience a high-quality, culturally responsive learning environment where they can thrive. There are three language groups associated with Wangkatjungka RCS, including Walmajarri, Gooniyandi and Wangkatjungka.

Wangkatjungka RCS is located in a remote Aboriginal community in the Kimberley region of Western Australia, approximately 110 km from the nearest town centre, Fitzroy Crossing. Access to the community includes approximately 20 km of unsealed road.

The Wangkatjungka community is surrounded by three cattle stations: Beefwood Park Station, Bulka Station and Christmas Creek Station.

The Role

We are seeking an enthusiastic and dedicated Primary Teacher to join our team. The successful applicant will work collaboratively in partnership with our Aboriginal and Islander Education Officer (AIEO) staff to co‑lead and further develop our established and highly regarded Two‑Way Science Program.

This is an exciting opportunity for an educator who is passionate about science, culture, community and creating meaningful learning experiences for students.

Our Two‑Way Science Program brings together ‘two worlds’, creating opportunities for students to learn through connection to Country, culture and community, while developing their scientific knowledge, curiosity, critical thinking and problem‑solving skills.

The successful applicant will work alongside our AIEOs, drawing on their cultural knowledge, community connections and expertise to plan and deliver rich, authentic learning experiences. This is a genuine partnership, where both Western scientific understandings and Aboriginal ways of knowing are valued and brought together to enrich student learning.

The successful applicant will also have responsibilities in Literacy and a Specialist area. We are open to exploring what this specialist area could look like and importantly what strengths, passions and skills you can bring to our school.
