Job summary

North Academy in West Wallsend is seeking a passionate teacher to join our supportive team, educating students in years 9–12 and potentially across KLAs. You will work with youth facing mental health and behavioural challenges, applying trauma-informed approaches and collaborating with leaders, wellbeing staff and learning support to create a safe, inclusive learning environment.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in teaching (primary or secondary) required.
• NESA registration to teach in NSW required.
• Experience with mental health and challenging behaviours advantageous.
• Experience or interest in non-mainstream education welcomed.
• Strong time management, interpersonal and emotional intelligence skills.

Responsibilities

• Live and teach according to the North Education Model in a supportive, engaging environment.
• Deliver lessons to students in years 9–12 and across KLAs as needed.
• Prioritise and maintain healthy connections with all young people.
• Design engaging curriculum, programs, assessments and resources for allocated KLAs.
• Apply Therapeutic Crisis Intervention (TCI) strategies to manage behaviour when required.
• Collaborate with Head Teacher, teachers, support and wellbeing staff to foster safety and support.
• Attend weekly excursions, team meetings and school events.

Who are we looking for?

• We’re looking for a passionate teacher to join our exceptional team.

• Primary or secondary trained. Special education highly considered, but not a deal breaker for us.

• NESA registration to teach in NSW. Conditional, provisional, and proficient accreditations welcomed.

• An individual who understands trauma, behaviour and mental health needs.

• Willingness to teach multiple subjects and outside of your Key Learning Area (KLA).

Essential requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in teaching (primary or secondary).

• Approval to teach in NSW by NESA.

• Experience in managing students with mental health and challenging behaviours.

• Experience or interest working in non-mainstream education.

• Outstanding time management, interpersonal and emotional intelligence skills.

Start date: Term 4, 2026 (preferable) or Term 1 2027.
