Job summary

The Australian Football League (AFL) invites applications for Assistant Coaches to support Tasmania’s Talent Pathway programs for under-16/18 and 12–15 age groups. Roles are regional across North, North-West and South hubs, offering about 3.5–6 hours per week in a seasonal, part-time capacity.

You will assist with training sessions, follow the curriculum, and focus on developing players’ fundamental skills, confidence and sportsmanship while ensuring safe, inclusive environments.

Qualifications

• Commitment to the individual development of young players.
• Clear, respectful communication of coaching guidance.
• Ability to work evenings and weekends.
• Valid Working with Vulnerable People card.
• AFL Silver Coach Accreditation or progress towards accreditation.

The opportunity - seasonal part-time role approxmately 3.5-6 hours per week

Join the Tasmania Talent Pathway team and help young players build their football skills, confidence and potential in a safe, positive and inclusive environment.

We are looking for Assistant Coaches for our important programs: Regional Assistant Development Coaches supporting Tasmania’s under-16 and under-18 boys’ and girls’ Talent Pathway programs, and Emerging Talent Pathways Assistant Coaches supporting boys and girls aged 12 to 15.

Regional Assistant Development Coach opportunities are available across Tasmania’s North, North-West and South regional hubs and support the under-16 National Championships and under-18 Talent League programs. These roles work alongside the State Development Coaches, Regional Talent Operations Leads and Talent Pathways Skills Acquisition Coach to support the individual development of Tasmania Talent Pathway players.

Emerging Talent Assistant Coaches deliver one weekly training session and provide game-day coaching. These roles focus on delivering the fundamental skills curriculum while supporting young players to develop their skills, confidence and sportsmanship.

What you’ll own

You will help create a high-quality development experience that places the individual needs of each player at the centre of coaching. Working collaboratively with program coaches and pathway staff, you will support well-planned training sessions and match days across your appointed region and program.

You’ll add value through:

• Supporting the relevant coach with the planning and delivery of training sessions and match days
• Delivering coaching activities in line with the program’s curriculum and player development priorities
• Helping players strengthen their fundamental football skills, confidence and understanding of the game
• Acting as a line coach and providing clear, constructive education to the players in your care
• Creating a safe, inclusive and positive learning environment for boys and girls
• Contributing to a respectful, supportive and development-focused culture within the region
• Working collaboratively with coaches, pathway staff and other program partners
• Supporting the individual development of talented players throughout their pathway experience
• Demonstrating care for the safety and wellbeing of children and young people at every session and match day

What you’ll bring

• A demonstrated commitment to the individual development of young and talented players
• The ability to communicate coaching guidance clearly, positively and respectfully
• Initiative and the ability to contribute effectively within a collaborative team environment
• The ability to use relevant technology and digital tools to support coaching activities
• Capacity to work evenings and weekends as required by the appointed program
• Sound football knowledge and an understanding of effective coaching principles
• A valid Working with Vulnerable People card
• AFL Silver Coach Accreditation, previously Level 2, or progress towards an AFL Coaching accreditation
