Job summary

A governmental correctional services agency is looking for a Correctional Officer to provide support and security in correctional centres across NSW. Overview

Correctional Officer
Corrective Services New South Wales

Location: Statewide (Extreme High Security Escort Unit Metro only). Salary: $75,151 - $89,070 per annum plus employer’s contribution to superannuation, annual leave loading and allowance.

What We’re Looking For

As a standout candidate for this role, you will have excellent communication skills, a positive attitude, be resilient and possess a strong work ethic and high level of integrity in line with CSNSW core values. You must be prepared to work a rotating roster, including weekend and shift work, travel to any location within NSW, and at times spend extended periods away from your residence including afterhours and emergency call outs. You will be required to pass the standard Security Operations Group fitness test prior to progressing to a selection day.

Responsibilities
  • Provide a high standard of security, assistance and support to General Managers, senior management, and officers in charge of correctional centres to maintain good order, discipline, safety and security.
  • Deliver continuous static and dynamic security for containment and oversight of Extreme High Risk Restricted inmate / Extreme High Security offender activities.
  • Contribute to the safety, security, welfare, development and rehabilitation of inmates and public safety, in compliance with Courts directions and departmental policies.
  • Support the Security Operations Group in managing critical incidents, high risk escorts, planning, threat assessments and sound operational decision making; work with external law enforcement agencies and stakeholders to uphold CSNSW client service standards.
  • Participate in selection processes for SOG streams (EHSEU, K9, SOG operations).
Essential Requirements
  • Certificate III in Correctional Practice or relevant custodial experience
  • Ability to complete and maintain the Security Operations Group fitness test
  • Completed the Emergency Response Operators Course (EROC)
  • Valid NSW Driver’s Licence able to drive official vehicles
  • Commitment to role requirements and willingness to respond to serious incidents
  • Ability to work with Immediate Action Teams and other Security & Custody teams, and external agencies
  • Complete relevant training to maintain proficiency within the Security Operations Group (Induction Course)
  • CSNSW K9 requirements: completed or able to complete NSW Corrective Services Dog Handlers Course; meet and maintain standards of an operational CSNSW K9 handler
  • Driver’s Licence with willingness to drive throughout NSW
Essential Certifications
  • Hold or be willing to obtain base qualifications required for the role
  • Attend Security Operations Group Induction Course (3 weeks)
  • Hold Chemical Munitions Operations Certification (CMOC)
  • Hold Emergency Response Operators certification (EROC)
Additional Requirements Depending On Role Selection
  • Meet satisfactory probity and National Security Clearances. Australian citizenship and National Security Clearance to Secret level within 6 months of appointment. If checks are not met, may be assigned to another Correctional Officer role.
  • K9 role: may need to reside or relocate within 115 km of the nominated K9 Unit Base; secure yard to house a CSNSW Dog; residential yard inspection required.
