Job summary

Optus is seeking a Systems Engineer to assist in delivering end-to-end solutions across the technology lifecycle, from development through to operations, while maintaining secure and scalable platforms.

You will collaborate with internal teams and external stakeholders, including government agencies, to support solution delivery, security assessments and continuous improvement through automation and modern engineering practices.

Qualifications

  • Experience in systems engineering, infrastructure, or network engineering in regulated environments.
  • Programming, software development and building web APIs experience.
  • Knowledge of data networks, servers and storage with distributed systems exposure.
  • Familiarity with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, or GCP) to operate on-premises solutions.
  • Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
  • Cybersecurity certifications are an advantage.

As a Systems Engineer will be responsible for assisting other members of the team to support innovative technical solutions to address customer requirements and government initiatives through the solution’s life cycle.

The Day to Day
  • Assist senior engineers in delivering end-to-end solutions across the technology lifecycle, from development through to operations
  • Contribute to highly available, secure, and scalable systems, maintaining reliability of critical regulatory platforms
  • Partner with internal teams and external stakeholders, including government and law enforcement agencies, to support solution delivery and operations
  • Participate in security risk assessments and help maintain security architecture in regulated environments
  • Support continuous improvement through modern engineering practices, automation, and evolving technologies.
What You Bring
  • Experience in systems engineering, infrastructure, or network engineering, ideally within telecommunications or regulated environments
  • Experience in programming, software development and building web APIs
  • Knowledge of data networks, servers, and storage technologies, with exposure to distributed systems
  • Familiarity with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, or GCP) to assist in operating on-premises solutions using cloud-native patterns and contemporary tooling
  • Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills
  • Relevant tertiary qualifications in Computer Science/Engineering; cybersecurity certifications are an advantage
