Job summary

Cumberland City Council is seeking a dedicated Sweeper Operator to join the City Maintenance team. The role focuses on keeping streets and public areas clean and well-presented, with travel across worksites and a 70-hour fortnight on a 9-day roster.

The successful candidate will have two years of sweeper experience, a current MR licence, and a White Card, with a commitment to safety, quality, and continuous improvement.

  • General Construction Induction Card (White Card).
  • Demonstrate sound knowledge in the use of a mechanical sweeper and its operations.

Responsibilities

  • Sweep Council streets and drains to maintain presentation of the public domain.
  • Work with other sections to meet community expectations.
  • Operate a mechanical sweeper efficiently and safely.
  • Travel across Council worksites as required and cover multiple locations.

ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY

The Cleansing team focuses on managing the daily presentation of the public domain within the Cumberland City Area, ensuring that it is maintained and presented so that residents and visitors are proud of the area and it meets their expectations.

We are seeking a Sweeper Operator to join our City Maintenance team. The Sweeper Operator will ensure the on-site efficient and effective use of Council resources.

You willbe responsible forsweeping Council's streets and drain maintenance, cleaning around traffic facilities and working with other sections to ensure communities expectations are met to a high standard.

The successful applicant will require:

  • Minimum two (2) years’ experience in sweeper operations
  • Current class MR driver’s licence
  • General Construction Induction Card (White Card)
  • Demonstrate sound knowledge in the use of a mechanical sweeper and all facets of its operational purposes
  • Demonstrate a strong customer focus with sound customer service skills and the ability to embrace a system of change and continual improvement.

About this role:
  • Permanent, full-time position
  • 70 hour fortnight
  • Access to Council's 9 day fortnight Rostered Day Off (RDO) arrangement
  • Located at Council's Guildford Depot, with frequent travel required across Council worksites, and may be required to work across any of Council’s work locations

Salary information: The salary and conditions of employment are in accordance with the NSW Local Government (State) Award.

  • Grade 6 of the Cumberland Salary Structure with a salary range of $1,262.45 to $1,546.51 per week, plus 12% superannuation
  • The commencing salary will be negotiated, taking into consideration the successful applicant's qualifications, skills and experience related to the role

What you'll need to have for this role:

  • The right to live and work in Australia
  • Be able to provide information for pre-employment checks required for the position, including attending a physical pre-employment medical examination as required
  • Participate in health monitoring as outlined in the risk assessment for this position and Council’s Health Monitoring Procedure, as required.
