Full-time | Competitive remuneration based on experience
Newnham Karl Weir & Partners (NKWP) is a well-established, locally owned land surveying consultancy based in Coffs Harbour, servicing the Mid North Coast of NSW for over 30 years.
We undertake a diverse range of surveying projects, including cadastral surveys, subdivisions, residential and commercial developments, construction surveying, engineering surveys and 3D reality capture.
Due to continued growth, we are seeking an experienced Senior Survey Draftsperson to join our team.
We are looking for someone with strong technical drafting skills and practical knowledge of NSW surveying requirements, who can independently prepare accurate, high-quality plans across a broad range of survey disciplines.
You will play an important role in the preparation and delivery of survey plans, working closely with our registered surveyors and field teams.
Your responsibilities will include:
Works as Executed (WAE) plans: Preparing accurate as-constructed documentation for civil infrastructure, including roads, drainage, sewer, water and associated works.
Detail and contour surveys: Producing detailed topographical plans, surface models, contours, sections and associated survey deliverables.
Cadastral and subdivision plans: Preparing Deposited Plans (DPs), subdivision plans, easement plans and associated documentation in accordance with NSW Land Registry Services (LRS) requirements.
Survey data processing: Interpreting and processing field observations, survey calculations, digital terrain models and other spatial datasets.
Quality assurance: Reviewing plans for accuracy, completeness, consistency and compliance with relevant standards and client requirements.
Project coordination: Working closely with surveyors to resolve discrepancies, manage drafting priorities and meet project deadlines.
Workflow improvement: Helping maintain and develop efficient drafting processes, templates and company standards.
For the right applicant, there may also be opportunities to assist with point cloud processing, 3D modelling, technical leadership and mentoring other staff.
We are seeking an experienced survey draftsperson who takes pride in producing accurate, well-presented work and can manage drafting tasks with minimal supervision.
Significant experience in survey drafting, preferably within NSW.
Demonstrated experience preparing WAE plans, detail and contour surveys, and/or cadastral and subdivision plans.
Strong understanding of survey data, coordinate systems, levels, contours and digital terrain models.
Ability to interpret field survey information, calculations, design drawings, existing survey plans and title information.
Experience with CAD and survey drafting software.
Excellent attention to detail, problem-solving skills and the ability to identify discrepancies before plans are finalised.
Ability to work independently, manage competing priorities and deliver quality work within project timeframes.
Strong knowledge of NSW cadastral surveying requirements and LRS plan preparation and lodgement standards.
Experience preparing complex Deposited Plans, easements and restrictions.
Extensive experience with civil infrastructure WAE documentation and relevant council or authority requirements.
Experience with LISCAD, BricsCAD, AutoCAD, 12d or similar software.
Practical field surveying experience or formal surveying qualifications.
Experience processing point clouds, LiDAR data or producing 3D models.
Experience mentoring staff or improving drafting workflows.
Formal qualifications are advantageous but not essential. Practical experience, technical knowledge and the ability to consistently produce accurate plans are our priorities.
A stable, long-term position with an established local surveying consultancy.
A diverse range of cadastral, civil, construction and development projects.
The opportunity to take ownership of your work and contribute to project delivery.
A supportive team of registered surveyors, field surveyors and technical staff.
Access to modern surveying equipment, technology and software.
The lifestyle benefits of living and working in Coffs Harbour and the Mid North Coast.
Competitive remuneration negotiated based on experience, skills and capabilities.
We recognise that experienced survey draftspersons bring different areas of expertise and are open to discussing the role with applicants whose strengths lie in cadastral, WAE or detail survey drafting.
