Job summary

McMullen Nolan Group (MNG) invites applications for a Survey Assistant role. You will support field survey teams, set up instruments, measure and record data, and perform basic office duties.

Training and development opportunities are available as you progress within a respected Australian surveying firm. Ideal candidates are current university or diploma students in Surveying, with a driver’s license and readiness to work outdoors and in an office environment.

Qualifications

  • Must be enrolled in a survey-related course (university or diploma).
  • Requires a valid driver’s license.
  • Able to work outdoors and in an office environment.
  • Team-oriented approach with a strong emphasis on safety practices.

Responsibilities

  • Assist the Surveyor and field team with surveying tasks.
  • Set up and use survey instruments and basic field equipment.
  • Measure accurately and reduce field measurements and levels.
  • Maintain, clean and calibrate survey equipment and keep storage tidy.
  • Perform general office duties as required.
  • Comply with health, safety policies and report hazards.

What's involved in the role
  • Assist the Surveyor and other colleagues in the field with all aspects of surveying and survey field work.
  • Set up and use survey instruments and basic field equipment, with the level of supervision matched to your experience.
  • Measure accurately using the correct techniques, and reduce field measurements and levels.
  • Maintain, clean and calibrate survey equipment, keeping storage areas tidy and equipment stored safely.
  • Undertake general office and other duties as required.
  • Take reasonable care for your own health and safety and that of others, follow company policies and procedures, and report all hazards, incidents and workplace injuries.

This role will suit someone looking to start or build a career in surveying with an experienced team in an established business. The position is offered to those currently undertaking a university or diploma level qualification in Surveying, with an interest in securing casual weekday work.

What you'll need

  • The ability to work outdoors and in an office environment.
  • The ability to carry out manual handling tasks, such as hammering in pegs and stakes and lifting and carrying survey equipment.
  • A team-oriented approach and awareness of safe work practices.
  • Currently hold or able to obtain a QLD white card
  • Currently enrolled in a survey related course
