Job summary

Greencross Vet Hospital invites a dedicated Surgery Veterinary Nurse to join our expanding referral surgery team. You will work alongside experienced surgeons, anaesthesia professionals and a skilled nursing group to manage a diverse surgical caseload.

As a teaching hospital, you will mentor DVM students and develop your surgical skills through complex orthopaedic, soft tissue and emergency cases within a collaborative, supportive team.

Qualifications

• Certificate IV in Veterinary Nursing is essential.
• Minimum of two years in a referral/specialist hospital or five years in general practice.
• Strong interest in surgery and perioperative patient care.
• Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
• Willingness to teach and mentor DVM students.

Responsibilities

• Provide compassionate nursing care to surgical patients throughout their hospital stay.
• Assist surgeons with advanced soft tissue, orthopaedic and emergency procedures.
• Prepare theatres, instruments and ensure sterility and patient safety.
• Assist with anaesthesia preparation, monitoring and recovery.
• Deliver inpatient nursing care including pain management and wound care.
• Maintain accurate patient records and handovers; coordinate care across teams.
• Mentor and support DVM students in the clinical learning environment.
• Contribute to ongoing development of the surgical service and team culture.
