Job summary

Flourish Community Solutions Pty Ltd. Ipswich QLD seeks a Foster and Family Worker to provide practical, respectful support to foster and kinship carers in their homes and communities.

The role emphasises carer support and household routines, with direct work with children and young people as a secondary focus. You will help establish routines, support trauma-informed care, and assist with safe, coordinated care plans.

Qualifications

• Demonstrated ability to provide practical in-home or community-based support to families, carers, children or young people.
• Clear written and verbal communication skills, including accurate and timely case notes and incident documentation.
• Current Australian driver licence and access to a vehicle suitable for work-related travel, where required.

Flourish Community Solutions – Ipswich QLD

The Foster and Family Worker (FFSW) provides practical, respectful and responsive support to foster and kinship carers within their homes and communities. The role is designed to reduce day-to-day pressure, strengthen household routines and help carers sustain safe and stable care arrangements. Support is delivered in accordance with agreed service plans, organisational procedures and guidance from the Senior Practitioner or Project Lead. The position is primarily carer support and household-focused. Direct support to children and young people is secondary and is provided to assist the family, maintain routines and enable participation in school, appointments and community activities. The role remuneration is a level 3 on the SCHADS award and any associated penalty rates. Casual vacancies are also available.

Key responsibilities

Assist carers with agreed household tasks that reduce immediate pressure, including family meal preparation, light household duties, laundry, organisation of shared spaces and support with daily routines.

Help establish and maintain practical morning, afternoon, mealtime and bedtime routines in line with the family support plan.

Support carers to understand behaviour as communication and to consider triggers, unmet needs, developmental stage, sensory factors and the impact of trauma.

Coach carers in applying agreed routines, boundaries, co-regulation, connection and behaviour-support strategies contained within the family support plan.

Support carers to complete agreed practical tasks while respecting the home, family relationships, cultural identity, privacy and the carer's role as the primary caregiver.

Identify and report emerging practical pressures or changes in the household that may require review by the Senior Practitioner or Project Lead.

Transport children and young people to school, appointments, contact visits, activities and community commitments where this has been approved and scheduled.

Support participation in safe, age-appropriate recreational, social and community activities.

Provide practical supervision and engagement in accordance with the child or young person's approved care, safety and behaviour support arrangements.

Implement established trauma-informed, relational and behaviour-support strategies, including agreed routines, co-regulation and calm redirection.

Build respectful, dependable and non-judgemental working relationships with carers and family members.

Engage in the after-hours support telephone line operational between 4-10 pm & 6 am - 9 am only.

Engage in wider organisational operational supports where needed, to maintain working hours.

About you

Demonstrated ability to provide practical in-home or community-based support to families, carers, children or young people.

A respectful, calm and reliable approach, with the ability to work in another person's home without judgement.

Basic understanding of trauma-informed care, child development, attachment, co-regulation and the impact of stress on families, or willingness to complete required training.

Ability to follow support plans, procedures, safety directions and established behaviour-support strategies.

Ability to recognise and promptly report changes, emerging pressures, safety concerns and matters outside the worker's scope.

Clear written and verbal communication skills, including accurate and timely case notes and incident documentation.

Current Working with Children Check or Blue Card and any additional screening required for the position.

Current Australian driver licence and access to a registered, roadworthy and comprehensively insured vehicle suitable for work-related travel, where required.

Current First Aid and CPR certificates, or capacity to obtain these before commencing direct service delivery.

Relevant qualification, training or demonstrated competency appropriate to practical family support, community services, youth work, disability support, education support or a related field.
