Job summary

South32 Group Operations Pty. Ltd. is seeking an experienced Supervisor Underground Projects (Mechanical) for two 24-month fixed-term contracts. Roles are on an 8:6 roster with FIFO options from Brisbane, Townsville, Cairns or DIDO from Mount Isa, Cloncurry and McKinlay shires.

You will lead delivery of mechanical capital projects, ensuring safety, contractor performance, schedule and budget control, and a clean handover to operations. Strong supervision in underground mining is essential.

Qualifications

• Trade or tertiary qualification in a mechanical discipline is preferred.
• Mining Supervisor qualification (G1/G8/G9) or ability to obtain prior to commencement.
• Current valid driver's licence is required.

Responsibilities

• Deliver mechanical capital projects through the execution phase with safe outcomes.
• Ensure contractor performance, schedule adherence and budget control.
• Successful handover to operations and close management of project documents.
• Coordinate project variations, reporting and system updates.
• Manage permits, shutdown requirements and cross-functional interfaces.

ABOUT CANNINGTON

Our Cannington operation is one of the world's largest producers of silver and lead. Located in northwest Queensland, Cannington boasts an underground mine and processing facility situated approximately 800 kilometres west of Townsville and a concentrate handling facility at the Port of Townsville.

Flights are direct to the onsite airport, and the mine is only 3.5 km from camp—the perfect distance for a sunset walk or run home along a purpose-built walking track. The onsite accommodation includes meal services, sports/gym facilities, swimming pool, music room, and social area.

ABOUT THE ROLE

We have two 24-month Fixed Term Contract positions available on an 8:6 roster, FIFO from Brisbane, Townsville/Cairns, or DIDO from Mount Isa, Cloncurry and McKinlay shires.

As the Supervisor Underground Projects (Mechanical), you will be responsible for delivering mechanical capital projects through the execution phase, ensuring safe outcomes, effective contractor performance, schedule adherence, budget control and successful handover to operations.

Other key responsibilities include, but aren’t limited to:

• Coordinate project variations, reporting and project system updates
• Maintain quality documentation, completions records and work packs
• Provide constructability input during project study phases
• Manage permits, shutdown requirements and cross-functional interfaces

ABOUT YOU

You will have experience and demonstrate capability in the following:

• Supervision experience within underground mining or other complex operational environments
• Delivering construction or capital projects within mining or heavy industry
• Building strong stakeholder relationships across operational teams and contractors
• Planning, coordinating and prioritising competing project activities
• Communicating effectively and influencing outcomes across diverse groups

Qualifications for this position are:

• Trade or Tertiary qualification in a relevant mechanical discipline (preferred)
• Mining Supervisor (G1, G8, G9) qualification, or the ability to obtain prior to commencement
• Current Drivers Licence
