This is an exciting opportunity for a proactive leader who can balance operational demands, support staff development and contribute to continuous improvement in regulatory compliance services across the City.

About the team:

The City Inspectorate branch is responsible for enforcement of the City’s standards and local laws, across building, community, public safety and environmental health compliance to protect safety and amenity for the City’s residents and visitors.

The Community Compliance business unit is responsible for:
  • Patrolling and enforcing parking laws in paid parking and timed parking areas, off-street regulated parking areas, designated disabled parking bays, and respond to and investigate complaints and breaches of parking regulations.
  • Reviewing and managing unpaid parking fines and related disputes.
  • Delivering animal management initiatives to residents including patrols and enforcement, impounding and off leash facilities, pet education, and complaints management, to ensure animals are appropriately cared for and managed in compliance with legislation.
About the role:

The Supervisor Regulatory Compliance is responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations of the Compliance Rangers team, ensuring resources, schedules and workloads are effectively managed to meet service delivery objectives.

You will coordinate patrols, staff rosters and operational activities, oversee administrative decisions, monitor team performance and foster a positive, safe and collaborative working environment. You will also work closely with specialised business units to coordinate activities, manage competing priorities and minimise operational conflicts.

As a key member of the team, you will contribute to compliance improvement initiatives, provide operational insights to support policy development and ensure the consistent application of relevant legislation, local laws, policies and procedures

In this role, you will:

  • Facilitate the delivery of compliance improvement initiatives within the team.
  • Ensure compliance obligations are met by monitoring and applying legislative, regulatory and procedural requirements.
  • Contribute to operational insights related to policy development for the branch and City.
  • Ensure key targets within the team are met by managing workloads and schedules.
  • Apply relevant legislation and local laws to ensure compliance across the City.
  • Supervise staff, to ensure the team is contributing to achieve agreed deadline-driven timelines.
  • Review and effectively communicate administrative decisions in accordance with legislative and policy requirements.
  • Conduct regular staff evaluations and accompany team members in the field to foster staff development.
  • Coordinate staff rosters, leave approvals and overtime to ensure effective staffing and services across the City.
  • Build a positive, productive relationship with staff, peers, internal and external stakeholders by using strong high level interpersonal skills.
  • Ensure all activities are conducted in alignment with established policies and procedures, promoting a cohesive and compliant work environment.
About you:

You are a confident and adaptable leader who can motivate a team, make sound decisions and maintain a strong focus on compliance, accountability and customer service. You thrive in a dynamic operational environment and can effectively manage competing priorities while supporting your team's development and wellbeing.

You will bring:
  • Demonstrated experience supervising staff and coordinating operational teams, preferably within regulatory compliance, local government, law enforcement or a related field.
  • A sound understanding of relevant legislation, local laws, regulatory frameworks and compliance procedures, with the ability to apply requirements fairly and consistently.
  • Strong organisational and planning skills, including experience managing rosters, workloads, resources and competing operational priorities.
  • The ability to monitor performance, provide constructive feedback, conduct staff evaluations and support individual and team development.
  • Well-developed analytical and decision-making skills, including the ability to review administrative matters and communicate decisions clearly and professionally.
  • Highly developed interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build effective working relationships and manage sensitive or challenging situations.
  • Demonstrated commitment to workplace health, safety and wellbeing, continuous improvement and a positive team culture.
  • The ability to collaborate across business units, coordinate operational activities and resolve competing priorities in a constructive and timely manner.
  • ABachelor Degree in Business or equivalent knowledge and experience (desirable)
  • Certificate III in Local Government (Regulatory Services) or equivalent knowledge and/or experience(desirable).
