Rio Tinto Weipa is seeking a Supervisor Mechanical Maintenance (Shutdowns) to lead mechanical trades during fixed plant shutdowns, delivering safe, on-schedule outcomes. Reporting to the Superintendent Fixed Plant Maintenance, you will supervise shutdown crews, allocate resources, resolve on-the-job issues, and ensure work packs, isolations and parts are ready before the window opens.

You will work closely with planners and reliability teams to optimise performance, and support a 7-on/7-off

Qualifications

• Trade qualification in a mechanical discipline (Fitter, Boilermaker or equivalent) is essential.
• Experience leading mechanical tradespeople and Technical Officers.
• Experience supervising fixed plant mechanical shutdowns—scoping, work packs, isolations and execution.
• Hands-on knowledge of fixed plant assets such as conveyors, crushers, screens, pumps and materials handling equipment.
• Understanding asset management principles, including optimisation, forecasting, lifecycle management and risk mitigation.
• Commitment to safety and adherence to procedures and regulations.
• Strong communication with trades, planners, management and stakeholders.
• Ability to organise maintenance schedules and allocate resources to meet operations.

• Lead mechanical shutdown crews and use your leadership and critical thinking to deliver safe, on-schedule shutdowns
• Full-time permanent position, located at our Amrun mine; 7 7 roster (7 days on 7 days off, 7 nights on 7 nights off)

Join our team as a Supervisor Mechanical Maintenance (Shutdowns), leading mechanical trades and Technical Officers in the planning and execution of fixed plant shutdown maintenance across our bauxite processing and materials handling assets. You will play a crucial role in maintaining the reliability and safety of our assets.

Reporting to the Superintendent Fixed Plant Maintenance, you will supervise shutdown crews on the tools — allocating mechanical resources across the shutdown window, resolving on-the-job issues as they arise, and ensuring work is delivered safely, to scope and to schedule. You will work closely with planners and reliability teams to make sure work packs, isolations and parts are ready before the window opens, and you will monitor working practices and adherence to safety procedures to ensure the safety of everyone working in the area.

What You Will Bring

• Trade qualification in a mechanical discipline (Fitter, Boilermaker or equivalent) — essential
• Proven ability to lead and develop a team of mechanical tradespeople and Technical Officers
• Experience supervising fixed plant mechanical shutdowns — scoping, work packs, isolations and execution
• Hands-on knowledge of fixed plant mechanical assets such as conveyors, crushers, screens, pumps and materials handling equipment
• Understanding of asset management principles and practices, including optimisation, forecasting, lifecycle management and risk mitigation

Where you will be working

Our Weipa Operations includes three bauxite mines, processing facilities, ship loaders, an export wharf, two ports, power stations, a rail network, and ferry terminals. Located on the Western Cape York Peninsula in Far North Queensland, each year the operation produces more than 35 million tonnes of bauxite.

Our operations are supported by a 1,900-strong workforce — including 26 per cent who are women and 25 per cent Indigenous employees. Activities include mine operations, maintenance, asset management, ports, cultural heritage management, and processing facility management.

The development of our new mine, Amrun, extends the life of our Weipa bauxite operations by decades to come and significantly builds on our 55-year history on the Western Cape.
