Job summary

Queensland Department of Education – Tannum Sands State High School is seeking a compassionate Guidance Officer to support students' educational, social, emotional and mental health needs. The role requires strong interpersonal skills, professional judgement, and respectful, confidential practice.

You will work with school staff, families and external services to coordinate student support, provide counseling and career guidance, and develop individualised plans while upholding confidentiality

Qualifications

• Knowledge of diverse learners and inclusive practices.
• Experience in counseling and career guidance is advantageous.

Responsibilities

• Provide counselling, psychoeducational assessments and individualised support to students, offering advice to families and school staff on learning, behaviour, mental health, wellbeing, family concerns and career development.
• Work in partnership with school staff, families and external to coordinate student support, case management, facilitate referrals and identify, and advocate with and for support services that strengthen student wellbeing, engagement and promote access to and participation in learning.
• Identify and assess students' learning, developmental, behavioural and emotional needs, recommending appropriate interventions, educational adjustments and individualised support plans.
• Work in partnership with the school to support student protection, behaviour management, gifted and talented education and risk management procedures, including the development of individualised support plans and responses to critical incidents, transitions and reintegration into mainstream education.
• Provide guidance on educational pathways, career planning and personal development, maintain accurate and confidential records in accordance with legislation and policy, and contribute to professional learning for staff, students and families
• Uphold confidentiality and professional record-keeping standards in line with legal and policy requirements, contribute to professional learning and staff development, and assist students with educational decision-making, career planning and future pathways, including Senior Education and Training (SET) planning.
