Tannum Sands State High School, a proud, inclusive community school in Queensland, seeks a compassionate Guidance Officer to support students' educational, social, emotional and mental health needs. The role is a temporary full-time position commencing 21 January 2027 and concluding 31 March 2028, with potential departmental housing for the successful applicant.

The successful candidate will provide counselling, coordinate student support, and work with families and staff to promote wellbeing

Competenze

• Counselling and psychoeducational support for students.
• Knowledge of inclusive practices and student mental health in secondary education.
• Ability to maintain confidential records and adhere to policy.

Mansioni

• Provide counselling, psychoeducational assessments and individualised support to students, offering advice to families and school staff on learning, behaviour, mental health, wellbeing, family concerns and career development.
• Work in partnership with school staff, families and external services to coordinate student support, case management, facilitate referrals and identify, and advocate with and for support services that strengthen student wellbeing, engagement and promote access to and participation in learning.
• Identify and assess students' learning, developmental, behavioural and emotional needs, recommending appropriate interventions, educational adjustments and individualised support plans.
• Work in partnership with the school to support student protection, behaviour management, gifted and talented education and risk management procedures, including the development of individualised support plans and responses to critical incidents, transitions and reintegration into mainstream education.
• Provide guidance on educational pathways, career planning and personal development, maintain accurate and confidential records in accordance with legislation and policy, and contribute to professional learning for staff, students and families
• Uphold confidentiality and professional record‑keeping standards in line with legal and policy requirements, contribute to professional learning and staff development, and assist students with educational decision‑making, career planning and future pathways, including Senior Education and Training (SET) planning.
