Qualifications

• An understanding of, and an ability to positively work with a child with special needs including Challenging behaviour.
• An ability to promote and encourage independence in daily classroom routine with the guidance of the class teacher and other teachers.
• An ability to work under the direction of the classroom teacher in the implementation and evaluation of classroom activities, within a variety of classrooms.
• A demonstrated ability to participate effectively as part of a team.
• A commitment to professional learning and growth.

Responsibilities

• Provides routine support for teachers including assisting with planning of student routines.
• Supports communication between teachers and parents.
• Communicates with teachers on routine matters related to students and/or other responsibilities.
• Provides basic physical care and wellbeing support for students such as toileting, meals, and lifting.
• Occasionally assists with coordinating classroom activities and supporting individual or small groups of students.
