Job summary

Intrax Consulting Engineers in Melbourne is seeking a Structural Engineer to join the Housing team. You will deliver designs for single dwellings, townhouses, and low-rise developments under senior guidance, prepare calculations and documents, and support client relationships throughout the project lifecycle.

You will collaborate with engineers, drafters and coordinators, contribute to design reviews, and develop technical judgement while coaching graduates and pursuing chartership with Intrax's

Qualifications

• Bachelor degree in Civil or Structural Engineering.
• 3+ years post-graduate structural design experience.
• Residential or low-rise building experience.
• Experience designing timber, reinforced concrete and steel structures.
• Proficiency with design software ClearCalcs, Space Gass and Toolkit.
• Knowledge of Australian Standards and NCC (AS2870, AS1684, AS1170, AS3600, AS4100).
• Strong communication skills for client and stakeholder engagement.
• State registration/chartership pursued with company support.

Job description

We are seeking a Structural Engineer to join our Housing team in Melbourne.

The Opportunity

• Deliver residential engineering designs for single dwellings, townhouses, and low-rise developments with guidance from senior engineers.
• Prepare calculations, plans, and documentation that meet technical and project requirements.
• Assist with client and stakeholder management, supporting strong working relationships throughout the project lifecycle.
• Collaborate with engineers, drafters, and project coordinators to ensure accurate and timely delivery of design work.
• Contribute to design reviews by raising potential issues, offering practical solutions, and responding to technical queries.
• Apply feedback to refine the accuracy and efficiency of your work while developing stronger technical judgement.
• Assist in coaching and developing graduate engineers in line with Intrax practices and standards.
• Continue building your expertise through training sessions and knowledge-sharing activities that support your continuous professional development.

About You

• A Bachelor Degree in Civil or Structural Engineering from a recognised tertiary institution.
• 3+ years’ post-graduate structural design experience, ideally within the residential or low-rise building sector.
• Demonstrated experience in the design of residential and low-rise structures.
• Solid experience designing with timber, reinforced concrete and steel structures, including waffle and raft slabs, suspended slabs, and retaining walls.
• Proficiency with structural design software such as ClearCalcs, Space Gass and Toolkit (Inducta and RAPT advantageous).
• Strong ability to interpret and apply Australian Standards and the NCC, including AS2870, AS1684, AS1170, AS3600 and AS4100.
• Well-developed communication skills with the ability to build rapport with clients and project stakeholders.
• Working towards state registration and/or chartership (e.g. CPEng), with Intrax actively supporting you through the chartership process via mentorship, guidance and professional development.
