Job description

About The Role

Band 5 – base salary from $125,837 per annum (plus super) – total package will be negotiated with the preferred candidate based on skills and experience

We are looking for a new Strategy Specialist to join our team, based at our Lenah Valley office. This is an exciting opportunity to help drive the company strategy at TasNetworks and support the delivery of safe, reliable, and affordable energy to Tasmanians. We’re particularly interested in candidates who can combine strategic thinking with strong commercial and financial acumen to help inform business decisions and maximise value creation across the organisation.

About The Team

The Strategy and Planning team helps our business leaders set the strategic direction of TasNetworks and keep us on track to successfully deliver our company purpose – powering a bright future to deliver safe and sustainable essential services while maximising value for all of Tasmania.

We have the unique opportunity to work with all business groups across TasNetworks and coordinate how we will achieve the 'big picture' outcomes we are working towards. We bring stakeholders together to collaborate, help decision-makers make informed strategic choices, and provide commercial and strategic insights that shape long‑term business outcomes.

We are a small, close‑knit team that enjoys working together and supporting each other.

About The Role

As a Strategy Specialist, you will:

  • Engage with our senior leaders to plan how we will achieve our strategic goals
  • Work closely with portfolio leaders to help turn our strategic goals into business delivery plans and track their progress
  • Play a key role in the development and delivery of various Board, Executive, and senior leaders’ strategy and planning workshops
  • Monitor trends in our operating environment and provide meaningful insights to support our strategic decision‑making
  • Contribute to regular Board and shareholder reporting and the annual corporate plan process
  • Support strategic and commercial analysis, including business case development, investment prioritisation and value assessment activities.
About You

We’d love to hear about:

  • Your experience working in company strategy, particularly enterprise strategy development and delivering business planning that aligns with key business objectives
  • How you engage, collaborate, and communicate with your colleagues and stakeholders to influence change and deliver outcomes, such as workshop design and facilitation and managing relationships
  • How you monitor operating environment trends and develop insights to support strategic decision‑making
  • Your approach to developing compelling documents and materials for different audiences and managing information
  • Your experience in commercial analysis, financial modelling, investment evaluation and business case development
  • Your ability to translate financial, commercial and operational information into strategic recommendations for senior decision‑makers
  • Your tertiary qualifications in business, commerce, or economics, or significant experience in a similar role.

Previous experience in utilities or energy would be beneficial (but not essential). We strongly encourage applications from candidates with a consulting background who are looking to apply their strategic, commercial and analytical skills in a purpose‑driven organisation, as well as candidates with strong experience in corporate strategy, commercial advisory, business planning, investment analysis or related disciplines.
