Job summary

Council seeks a Team Leader Media & Strategic Communications to drive its media strategy, shape key messages and provide trusted communications advice to senior leaders. You will identify emerging issues, shape compelling narratives and manage complex media enquiries to protect the Council's reputation in a fast-paced environment.

Qualifications

• Relevant qualifications and/or extensive experience in media and communications.
• Experience in writing for government, executive or similar media and communications.
• Strong written, verbal and analytical skills, including ability to write engaging media releases, speeches and media briefing notes.
• Extensive experience in dealing with the media and preparing responses on behalf of people at various levels in the organisation.
• Ability to research and analyse issues promptly and provide appropriate media advice and solutions.
• Demonstrated ability to communicate with people from all levels of community, business and government.
• Ability to produce high-quality work within tight timeframes under pressure with minimal supervision.
• Understanding of government processes and an established media contacts network.
• Willingness to work flexible hours including after hours, weekends, and public holidays when required.
• Ability to lead as a team leader and contribute as a team member.
• Knowledge of government protocol, policies and procedures including Local Government Act.
• Experience with photography and videography including editing software (Adobe products).
• Ability to represent Council at public functions and announcements.
