Job summary

The Department of Defence seeks an EL 1 Internal Audit Governance Manager within the Audit and Fraud Control Branch in Canberra. You will manage the Defence Assurance Map, IA QA & Improvement Program, and contribute to the Strategic Internal Audit Plan while preparing assurance reporting and executive briefings.

This role emphasises governance over delivery of individual audits and requires strong analytical, communication, and stakeholder engagement skills to support high-quality governance

Qualifications

• This role focuses on governance and quality assurance across the Internal Audit function.
• Experience applying professional standards to audit governance and assurance activities.
• Ability to prepare executive-level reports and briefings with clear evidence-based insights.

Responsibilities

• Plan and manage Defence Assurance Map and IA Quality Assurance & Improvement Program.
• Contribute to Strategic Internal Audit Plan and provide assurance reporting for executives and committees.
• Coordinate compliance with the IIA Global Internal Audit Standards across Defence IA activities.
• Build stakeholder relationships and identify emerging risks requiring assurance.
• Prepare high-quality audit reports, briefing materials, and audit committee papers.
• Oversee governance activities and, when needed, supervise junior staff or external service providers.
