Job summary

Downer Energy and Utilities is seeking an experienced Environmental Approvals Manager to lead the environmental planning and approvals across major utility infrastructure projects, including transmission scale works.

Reporting to the Environmental Planning and Sustainability Director, you will mentor an approvals team, coordinate with regulators and stakeholders, and ensure compliance and timely delivery of approval commitments.

Qualifications

• Experience managing environmental approvals and compliance for major infrastructure projects.
• Strong knowledge of NSW and Commonwealth environmental and planning legislation (EP&A Act, EPBC Act, POEO Act).
• Experience with regulators, authorities and external stakeholders.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
• Ability to provide practical environmental advice in a project delivery environment.
• Strong organisational skills and ability to manage competing priorities.
• Experience undertaking environmental audits and compliance reviews.

Responsibilities

• Leading the development and implementation of environmental approvals strategies for Critical State Significant Infrastructure projects.
• Providing strategic advice to project leadership on approvals pathways, change management, compliance risk and mitigation measures.
• Interpreting approvals commitments and translating them into clear project obligations.
• Owning the post-approval program and coordinating management plans and approvals deliverables.
• Supporting environmental management systems and project compliance obligations.
• Managing consultants, budgets and schedules, and contributing approvals inputs to tenders and change processes.
• Building productive relationships with regulators, clients and key stakeholders.
