Job summary

Downer Energy and Utilities is seeking an experienced Environmental Approvals Manager to lead the environmental approvals function across major infrastructure projects in Australia. You will report to the Environmental Planning and Sustainability Director and guide compliance, monitoring and stakeholder engagement throughout the project lifecycle.

You will build and lead an approvals team, provide strategic advice on pathways, manage post-approval programs, liaise with regulators and clients,

Qualifications

• Experience managing environmental approvals for major infrastructure projects.
• Knowledge of NSW and Commonwealth environmental and planning legislation.
• Experience with government agencies and external stakeholders.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
• Ability to provide practical environmental advice in a project delivery environment.
• Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage competing priorities.
• Experience undertaking environmental audits and compliance reviews.
• Collaborative approach with a strong commitment to safety, sustainability and continuous improvement.

Responsibilities

• Leading the development and implementation of environmental approvals strategies for Critical State Significant Infrastructure projects.
• Providing strategic advice to project leadership on approvals pathways, change management, compliance risk, program impacts and practical mitigation measures.
• Interpreting approvals and commitments and translating them into clear project obligations.
• Owning the post-approval program and coordinating management plans and approvals deliverables.
• Supporting environmental management systems and project compliance obligations.
• Managing specialist consultants, approvals budgets, deliverable quality and schedules.
• Building productive relationships with regulators, clients and key stakeholders.
