Job summary

Yass Valley Council is seeking a Coordinator, Communication & Engagement to drive strategic engagement across the region. This newly created role focuses on shaping information flow, advising the Executive Management Team, and delivering high-impact communications for major projects.

You will lead multiple channels, manage media relations, and oversee community events, digital platforms, and public consultation processes, ensuring clear, consistent messaging and strong stakeholder engagement.

Qualifications

• Strategic experience in developing and implementing communication and engagement strategies within public or private sectors.
• High-level written and verbal communication skills with ability to translate policies into plain English for public consumption.
• Strong project management skills and the ability to manage multiple deadlines and priorities effectively.
• Experience leading a team in delivering communications, media, events and engagement services.

Responsibilities

• Lead development, implementation, and evaluation of comprehensive communication strategies across all Council divisions.
• Manage external media relations and crisis communication during high-pressure situations.
• Lead high-impact community engagement and events strategies, coordinating public consultation processes for major projects.
• Oversee the strategic direction of Council’s digital platforms to ensure content is current, engaging, and compliant.
• Lead and manage the Communications & Engagement team’s performance and development.
