Job summary

Stone Crew Pty Ltd is seeking a qualified Stonemason for a full-time permanent role to cut, shape, lay, and maintain natural and engineered stone for residential and commercial projects.

Applicants should have experience reading architectural plans, proficiency with stone-cutting tools, and a solid understanding of safety practices; a AQF Certificate III in Stonemasonry or a completed apprenticeship is expected.

Qualifications

• Relevant experience as a Stonemason.
• Experience cutting, shaping, laying, and polishing natural stone, granite, marble, and concrete blocks.
• Ability to read and work from architectural plans and technical drawings.
• Proficiency with stone-cutting power tools, saws, grinders, polishers, and chisels.
• Good knowledge of mortar mixing, levelling, and alignment techniques.
• Strong understanding of site safety rules, including silica dust controls and PPE.
• Strong problem-solving skills and keen attention to detail.
• Good physical fitness to handle heavy materials in fast-paced workshop or site environments.
• Valid trade license, registration, or safety induction card (White Card) where required.

Responsibilities

• Safely erect and dismantle restricted-height scaffolding to work on elevated stone structures.
• Apply damp-resistant sealing to foundations and prepare mortar beds to support stone blocks and slabs.
• Cut, dress, shape, and polish hard and soft natural stone, engineered stone, and masonry blocks using specialized saws, grinders, and hand chisels.
• Construct and renovate stone walls, facades, and structures using large masonry slabs, pre-cut stone units, and mortar.
• Bed stone blocks into mortar, clean off excess binder, and point joints for structural strength and a clean finish.
• Verify precise horizontal and vertical alignments using spirit levels, plumb lines, and measuring instruments.
• Cut, edge, polish, join, and fit stone kitchen benchtops, splashbacks, and custom stone features.
• Design, carve, cut, and letter monumental stonework, headstones, and memorial structures.
• Repair, repoint, and restore aging or damaged stone walls, cement blocks, and historic masonry.
• Prepare ground sub-bases, lay bedding material, and install stone segmental paving for walkways and courtyards.
• Follow mandatory workplace health and safety standards, including crystalline silica dust control and PPE protocols.
• Qualification & experience AQF Certificate III in Stonemasonry or a completed stonemasonry apprenticeship.
