Job summary

NBMLHD Hawkesbury District Health Service is seeking a Sterilisation Technician to ensure sterile and disinfected instruments for patient care across the hospital. You will perform sterilisation and reprocessing in line with NBMLHD policies and AS5369:2023 standards, contributing to high-quality healthcare.

The role requires a Certificate III in Sterilising Services, ability to work a flexible, rotating roster including weekends and shifts, and strong infection control knowledge.

Qualifications

• Certificate III in Sterilising Services and demonstrated experience working in a hospital Sterilising Services Department (SSD/CSSD).
• Knowledge of AS 5369:2023 Reprocessing of Reusable Medical Devices and infection prevention.
• Ability to safely perform physical requirements including standing for long periods and manual handling.
• Computer literacy and ability to use electronic tracking and hospital information systems.
• Ability to work in a multidisciplinary team and adapt to changing priorities.
• Well-developed customer service, communication and interpersonal skills.
• Experience in endoscope reprocessing and high-level disinfection.

Hawkesbury District Health Service is a teaching hospital in Windsor NSW, providing acute, community and allied health services for the local community and surrounding districts. The service provides 24-hour emergency, medical, surgical, diagnostic, maternity, neonatal, paediatric, palliative, intensive and coronary care services.

As a Sterilisation Technician, you will play a vital role in ensuring the safe provision of sterile and disinfected instruments and equipment to support patient care across Hawkesbury District Hospital. You will perform sterilisation and reprocessing activities in accordance with NBMLHD policies and procedures, as well as AS/NZS 4187 standards, contributing to the delivery of high-quality healthcare services.

As an integral member of the Sterilising Services team, you will assist in maintaining a safe and efficient work environment and may be required to support the training and supervision of new staff members developing their skills within the unit.

To be successful in this role, you must hold a certificate in sterilisation services and have demonstrated experience in scope cleaning and loan trays. You will bring a strong understanding of sterilisation processes, infection prevention principles, and a commitment to quality, safety and attention to detail.

What you will bring to the role

• Ability to work a flexible rotating roster, including weekends, public holidays and shift work as required.
• Certificate III in Sterilising Services and demonstrated experience working in a hospital Sterilising Services Department (SSD/CSSD).
• Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of AS 5369:2023 Reprocessing of Reusable Medical Devices and infection prevention and control principles. NSW Health has transitioned to AS5369:2023 as the key reprocessing standard.
• Demonstrated ability to safely perform the physical requirements of the role, including standing for prolonged periods, manual handling, lifting, pushing and pulling loads, and working with chemicals and biological hazards.
• Demonstrated computer literacy and ability to use electronic tracking and hospital information systems.
• Demonstrated ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team, adapt to changing priorities and manage competing work demands.
• Well-developed customer service, communication and interpersonal skills.
• Demonstrated experience in endoscope reprocessing and high-level disinfection (desirable/essential depending on service requirements).
