Job summary

Canva in Sydney is seeking a Staff Software Engineer for the Video Platform to build and maintain high-performance backend services powering audio and video processing.

You will design distributed systems, collaborate with product and design, optimize pipelines, and help scale video ingestion, transcoding, storage and delivery for millions of users.

This hybrid role offers on-campus collaboration in Sydney with remote work flexibility and a focus on excellence in video tech.

Qualifications

• Strong commercial experience building scalable, secure backend systems in C++.
• Deep grounding in concurrency, multithreading, memory management, and data structures.
• Experience designing and operating distributed systems and cloud production services.
• Proficient in diagnosing performance and reliability issues.
• Excellent collaboration with engineering, product, and design teams.

Responsibilities

• Develop and maintain high-performance C++ services and tools for Canva's video platform.
• Design distributed systems to ingest, process, store, and deliver multimedia content at scale.
• Collaborate with product managers and designers to enable video editing and playback experiences.
• Optimize pipelines for reliability, performance, and cost efficiency.
• Drive engineering excellence through testing, reviews, and operability.
• Troubleshoot production challenges and evolve video infrastructure.
