Job summary

St Vincent’s Hospital Network Sydney is seeking a Clinical Superintendent to lead a multidisciplinary team and support non-specialist medical officers across the network. The role emphasises confidentiality, strategic leadership, and collaboration with clinicians, education units, and hospital administration.

The successful candidate will coordinate teaching programs, support postgraduate opportunities, and contribute to clinical coding optimization within the governance framework.

Qualifications

• Specialist registration with AHPRA (or equivalent).
• Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians (FRACP).
• Commitment to teaching at registrar, junior medical officer and undergraduate levels.
• Strong organizational skills and ability to coordinate teaching programs through to exam stage.
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills across the organisation and with stakeholders.
• Understanding hospital funding models and activity capture.
• Experience with clinical coding optimization within a hospital setting.

About the role:

Work as a Clinical Leader within an inter-disciplinary team to support the delivery of organisational priorities and support non-specialist Medical Officers, including;

Dealing with matters of an urgent or sensitive nature and exercising discretion and sensitivity and maintain confidentiality.

Demonstrating leadership within a team environment and actively contribute to team activities including meetings and decision-making processes

Communicating effectively and in a timely fashion with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders including:

• Clinical Portfolios
• Multidisciplinary teams
• Other Clinical Divisions
• Medical Workforce Unit
• Health Information Services

Involvement with management of non-specialist medical officers, including SRMOs, Basic Physician trainees, and Advanced Trainees across St Vincent’s Hospital, Sydney (SVHS).

Developing strong working relationships with stakeholders in teaching and training, medical workforce, and hospital administrations.

Developing strong working relationships with health information services team

Undertake the responsibilities of the Medical Coding Lead within the Medical Services Governance structure.

Leadership role within medical directorate, involved in JMO management and supervision as determined by the Medical Executive

Selection Criteria:

Possess, or be eligible to possess, specialist registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA).

Possess Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians (FRACP) or equivalent.

Demonstrated commitment to teaching at specialty registrar, junior medical officer and undergraduate levels.

Demonstrated superior organizational skills and the ability to coordinate and develop a strong teaching program through to examination stage.

Demonstrated superior interpersonal and communication skills across all levels of the organization and with external stakeholders

Demonstrated understanding of hospital funding models and approach to optimization of activity capture

Demonstrated participation in clinical coding optimization in the hospital
