Job summary

Mater Group's Department of Anaesthesia invites Staff Anaesthetists to join our team across Springfield and South Brisbane, with full-time or part-time, maximum-term appointments and flexible start dates. You'll gain exposure to a broad case mix spanning secondary and tertiary care at two connected sites, including a greenfield Springfield hospital.

Join Mater’s Department of Anaesthesia and help shape the future of care across Mater Hospitals South Brisbane and the new Mater Hospital Springfield.

Mater is seeking Staff Anaesthetists to join our team in full-time or part-time, maximum-term appointments, with flexible commencement. The role sit as part of an integrated anaesthesia service working across both Springfield and South Brisbane, offering exposure to a broad and diverse case mix spanning secondary and tertiary care.

This is a unique opportunity to contribute to a state-of-the-art greenfield hospital at Springfield, while also maintaining strong links to the depth and complexity of a major tertiary centre at South Brisbane including Australia’s largest maternity hospital. Together, these sites support a comprehensive range of services including ICU, maternity, emergency, and medical and surgical care. With co-located private hospitals, there are also unique and attractive opportunities for anaesthetists to increases their earnings through private activity.

The successful applicants will contribute to anaesthetic services across the network, including participation in the after-hours on-call rosters at our facilities, supporting obstetric and emergency anaesthesia. Demonstrated expertise in obstetrics and a broad range of adult anaesthesia is essential. Skills in paediatric anaesthesia, regional anaesthesia, perioperative medicine, and acute pain management are highly regarded, along with involvement in teaching, research, and quality improvement.

What you will be doing

• Provide high-quality specialist anaesthetic services across Springfield and South Brisbane facilities
• Contribute to clinical support activities and service development within a networked model of care, as delegated by the Director
• Supervise and train junior medical staff
• Participate in formal and informal teaching, education, and training
• Engage in ongoing professional development, quality improvement, and clinical risk management

About you

• Registrable as a Specialist in Anaesthesia with the Australian Health Practitioners Regulation Agency
• Current knowledge and skills relevant to the broad range of elective and emergency adult anaesthesia, perioperative medicine, and acute pain management services required for the clinical workload of the department
• Current knowledge and skills relevant to paediatric anaesthesia desirable – or willing to achieve skills relevant to paediatric anaesthesia.
• Current knowledge and recent experience and skill in Obstetric Anaesthesia services is mandatory
• Recent or current subspecialty experience in areas such as oncological, upper gastrointestinal, orthopaedic, general surgical, ophthalmologic and urology surgery is highly desirable
