Job summary

Google Sovereign Cloud Australia is seeking a senior software engineering leader to help deliver secure, compliant cloud solutions for government environments. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams spanning architecture, security, and delivery to ensure robust, scalable systems.

Required are a strong track record in software architecture, 8+ years in engineering, and experience with containers, Kubernetes, and Google Cloud Platform, plus excellent communication and stakeholder

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree requirement.
• 8+ years of experience in software engineering, systems engineering, or distributed systems.
• Experience in software system architecture.
• Experience building secure and reliable systems.
• Experience with project management, owning and managing large projects, overseeing technical design and implementation.

Responsibilities

• Advise engineering teams on software deployment, containerization, build pipelines, and artifact verification for air-gapped environments.
• Provide authoritative design guidance across core domains including zero-trust architectures and highly available distributed systems.
• Serve as a trusted engineering subject matter expert bridging discussions between Google teams, delivery partners, and external stakeholders.
• Translate designs to API definitions, code, automation scripts, and IaC/config files to build, test, and enforce security controls.
• Collaborate with Security Assurance and Compliance teams to map and implement controls per ISM and PSPF.

Responsibilities

• Advise engineering teams on software deployment, containerization, build pipelines, and artifact verification tailored specifically for air-gapped, disconnected, and tactical edge environments.
• Provide authoritative design guidance across core domains including zero-trust architectures, highly availability/high reliability distributed system design, and reliable operation of core system services in challenging environments.
• Serve as a trusted engineering subject matter expert, bridging complex technical discussions between internal Google teams, delivery partners, and key external stakeholders.
• Translate designs to functioning API definitions, code, automation scripts, and infrastructure/security configuration files (e.g., Infrastructure as Code, CI/CD security validation pipelines) to directly build, test/validate, and enforce security controls.
• Work closely with the Security Assurance and Compliance teams to identify, map, implement, and maintain specific technical security controls aligned with the Information Security Manual (ISM) and Protective Security Policy Framework (PSPF).
