Job summary

Airwallex is seeking a seasoned Software Engineer for its AI Tooling team within Information Security. Based in Melbourne or Sydney, you will design, build, and operate the AI tooling platform used by employees across Airwallex.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Security, or a related field.
• Minimum 8 years of relevant software engineering experience.
• Experience with production code bases.
• Experience with at least one scripting language (e.g. Python) and one systems programming language (e.g. Golang, C/C++).
• Experience with modern cloud infrastructure, including data pipelines, serverless workloads, and Kubernetes.
• Proven experience delivering projects autonomously on time and with high quality.

Responsibilities

• Lead the development of AI tools and applications, from inception to implementation.
• Build, monitor, and maintain underlying infrastructure, including Kubernetes clusters, serverless workloads, and ETL pipelines.
• Support incident response efforts by building ad-hoc tools for threat hunting and remediation.
• Sit with engineers to identify opportunities for automation and tooling development.
• Partner with product engineering teams to drive security outcomes and develop gateways and services to decrease risk.
• Mentor and grow other Software Engineers in the team.

About the team

Within Information Security, our AI Tooling team builds secure internal platforms, applications, and automation that improve how Airwallex protects its systems, data, and employees. We turn emerging AI capabilities into reliable, governed tools that help security and engineering teams work faster, more consistently, and with stronger controls.

The team owns Airwallex's AI tooling platform, enabling employees to rapidly build internal applications, dashboards, and workflow automation with a strong focus on platform engineering, integrations, security, and scalability.

What you’ll do

You’ll design, build, and operate the AI tooling platform used by employees across Airwallex. Working closely with internal teams, you'll identify high-impact opportunities to develop AI-powered applications and automation, build platform capabilities and integrations, and scale the infrastructure that powers our internal tooling, including terabyte-scale log pipelines.

We're not tied to specific projects, languages, or technologies. Instead, we value engineers who dive deep to solve complex problems with pragmatic, scalable solutions. You'll also mentor junior engineers and help grow our world‑class engineering team.

This role is based in Melbourne or Sydney.

Responsibilities:

Who you are

We’re looking for people who meet the minimum qualifications for this role. The preferred qualifications are great to have, but are not mandatory.

Minimum qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Security, or a related field.

• Minimum 8 years of relevant experience in software engineering

• Experience with production code bases

• Experience with at least one scripting language (e.g. Python) and one systems programming language (eg. Golang, C/C++)

• Experience with modern cloud infrastructure, including data pipelines, serverless workloads, and Kubernetes

• Proven experience working autonomously on projects – delivering them to a high quality and on time.

• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

• Ability to dive deep to find the best solution to a problem

• Obsessive curiosity and a willingness to ask questions, gather context, and learn

Preferred qualifications:

• Experience working in a high-growth tech company.

• Hands on experience with AI – specifically leveraging AI to build applications

• Experience maintaining Linux operating systems
