Job summary

Block is seeking a Staff Software Engineer for the Financial Platform Issuing team in Melbourne. You will own complex card-network integrations, direct connectivity, and certification workflows, building durable tooling and production code at scale. You’ll collaborate across teams, influence network requirements, and help ensure reliable, compliant issuing systems.

This hands-on role supports Block's card programs globally with on-call readiness and a focus on security and payment reliability.

Qualifications

• Deep expertise with at least one major card network (e.g., Visa) including direct connectivity and certification workflows.
• Experience building and operating reliable financial/payments systems at scale.
• Willingness to participate in on-call rotations for critical systems.

Responsibilities

• Own complex card-network integrations and issuing platform APIs.
• Lead certification and conformance tooling across networks and programs.
• Collaborate with technical leads and cross-functional teams to shape solutions.
• Write production code and debugging at the protocol/message level.
• Influence network requirements and drive reliable, secure issuing systems.
