Job summary

CommBank is seeking a Staff Platform Engineer, AI Security to design and build shared platform capabilities for secure AI workloads at enterprise scale. This hands-on technical leadership role sits at the intersection of platform engineering, cloud, security and AI.

You will translate security requirements into robust, automated services and engage with security engineers, AI platform teams, cloud and infrastructure engineers, architects and application teams to drive secure production systems.

As Staff Platform Engineer, AI Security, you will design and build the shared platform capabilities through which AI security controls are delivered consistently, reliably and at enterprise scale.

This is a hands‑on technical leadership role at the intersection of platform engineering, cloud, security and artificial intelligence. You will translate security requirements and emerging technologies into robust, automated and reusable services that engineering teams can adopt through clear paved‑road patterns.

You will balance technical direction with implementation, solving complex platform problems, testing new approaches and enabling teams to protect AI workloads without relying on bespoke integrations or unnecessary technology coupling.

You will work closely with security engineers, AI platform teams, cloud and infrastructure engineers, architects and application teams to:

• Lead the architecture and engineering of platform capabilities that protect AI applications, services and workloads.
• Build reusable services, application programming interfaces, libraries, templates and automation for policy enforcement, configuration management and telemetry.
• Design integration patterns for securing AI traffic, model interactions, application programming interfaces and agentic architectures.
• Establish engineering standards and technical guardrails using automated testing, infrastructure‑as‑code, configuration‑as‑code and modern continuous delivery practices.
• Design capabilities for resilience, scalability and maintainability, while understanding the latency, throughput and capacity impact of controls within AI request paths.
• Lead prototypes and proofs of concept, guiding successful experiments towards secure and production‑ready services.
• Establish observability through meaningful metrics, logs, traces, dashboards and alerting.
• Mentor engineers and influence technical decisions across security, cloud, platform and application teams.

Bring extensive experience in platform, software, cloud or site reliability engineering, with a strong record of building shared technology platforms used by multiple engineering teams. You will combine deep technical capability with practical leadership, sound engineering judgement and a commitment to simple, reusable and reliable solutions.

Experience in several of the following areas will help you succeed:

• Strong software engineering capability across services, application programming interfaces and integration patterns.
• Cloud‑native engineering experience, including containers, orchestration, infrastructure‑as‑code and automated delivery.
• Experience designing resilient, scalable, observable and highly automated production systems.
• Understanding of security engineering principles and experience integrating security controls into platforms or application request paths.
• Ability to evaluate emerging AI technologies through experimentation, prototyping and proof‑of‑concept activities.
• Demonstrated technical leadership, including establishing direction, influencing decisions and mentoring engineers across organisational boundaries.
• Experience with AI or machine learning platforms, AI gateways, model endpoints, agentic architectures, Kubernetes, proxies, service mesh, distributed tracing or policy‑as‑code.
• Software development experience using Go, Python, Java, TypeScript or a comparable language.

Specific product or vendor experience is not required. Technologies will be evaluated based on engineering merit, security outcomes, interoperability and enterprise suitability.
