Job summary

CommBank is seeking a Data Protection & Storage Staff Platform Engineer to manage and scale our enterprise backup and recovery infrastructure across hybrid Sydney environments. You will administer Commvault, monitor health and performance, and lead root cause analyses of backup issues while mentoring junior engineers.

You will ensure data retention policies are followed, document configurations and DR plans, and design robust disaster recovery strategies.

Qualifications

• Expert-level hands-on experience with Commvault, DataDomain, Networker, CommServe, Media Agents, and client configurations.
• Strong understanding of backup policies, deduplication, catalogue management, and storage targets (ECS, Pure, PMAX, Netapp).
• Experience with scripting and automation tools (Python, PowerShell, Bash, Ansible, Terraform).
• Familiarity with monitoring tools and dashboards such as Grafana, Prometheus.

Data Protection & Storage Staff Platform Engineer

Your Impact and Contribution

We are seeking a highly skilled and proactive Data Protection Engineer to manage, optimize, and scale our enterprise cyber backup and recovery infrastructure. This role demands deep technical expertise in various data protection applications, strong troubleshooting skills, and the ability to collaborate across teams to ensure data protection and business continuity.

Your responsibilities will include:

• Administer and maintain a Commvault backup and recovery environment across hybrid infrastructure.
• Monitor system health, job performance, and storage utilization proactively.

We're interested in hearing from people who have:

• Expert-level hands-on experience with Commvault, DataDomain, Networker, CommServe, Media Agents, and client configurations.
• Strong understanding of backup policies, deduplication, catalogue management, and storage targets (ECS, Pure, PMAX, Netapp).
• Experience with scripting and automation tools (Python, PowerShell, Bash, Ansible, Terraform)
• Familiarity with monitoring tools and reporting dashboards such as Grafana, Prometheus.
• Any experience as a Platform Engineer or in a similar role, with a strong focus on managing public or private cloud environments (e.g., AWS, VMware, Converged Infrastructure / Database platforms).
• Expertise / experience / familiarity across a broad area of technologies (e.g. HSM, Active Directory, CyberArk, AI Ops etc) highly regarded.

Preferred Qualifications

• Extensive of experience in enterprise backup and recovery.
• Commvault Certified Professional or higher.
• Exposure to ITIL processes and change management.
