Job summary

Canva is seeking a Staff Software Engineer to own and evolve core infrastructure enabling Canva's backend services to talk to each other reliably and securely. You will drive a major migration of service communication and help more teams build in their language of choice.

You will mentor engineers, raise the technical bar across the team, and ensure the critical paths remain fast and correct for the entire engineering org. This role is remote-friendly within Australia.

Qualifications

• Built and operated infrastructure relied on by other engineering teams.
• Experience with high-traffic, production systems.
• Ability to drive technical direction across teams and communicate clearly.

Responsibilities

• Own and evolve Canva's core infrastructure across backend services.
• Lead a major migration of service communication and integrations.
• Support multi-language frameworks to enable teams to build natively on the platform.
• Ensure reliability, performance, and correctness of critical systems.
• Mentor engineers and raise technical standards across the team.
