Job description

An exciting opportunity exists for a Speech Pathologist to join the Inner Gippsland Student Support Services (SSS) team. SSS Speech Pathologists assess and develop strategies to address communication and educational needs of children and young people within an educational context. Working as part of a multidisciplinary team, SSS Speech Pathologists provide comprehensive speech pathology services to schools to support student engagement and learning and provide high-level professional advice to principals and school networks that strongly influence language and literacy practice in local area schools. This can encompass a broad range of areas including articulation disorders, language disorders, learning and literacy difficulties, behavioural issues, disabilities, mental health and school transitions.

An exciting opportunity exists for a highly motivated Speech Pathologist to join the Student Support Services (SSS) team based in the Latrobe Valley area.

Communication is fundamental to learning, participation and wellbeing. As a Speech Pathologist in Student Support Services, you will work with schools, families and communities to support students to develop the communication skills they need to engage, learn and thrive.

This role offers a unique opportunity to influence outcomes not only for individual students but also across entire school communities through consultation, capacity building and collaborative practice.

About the role

This 1.0 FTE, ongoing position] is based at the Moe office in the Latrobe Valley area, Gippsland.

In your role, you will help children and young people achieve their educational goals and overcome barriers. You will contribute to this by:

  • Providing support and advice to schools, including regarding complex cases and time sensitive decisions.
  • Supporting schools to respond effectively to critical incidents.
  • Supporting schools to develop reasonable adjustments for students over time as part of ongoing student support planning.
  • Building the capability of teachers through professional learning.

Key selection criteria

We want to hear from you, if you have:

  • Suitable experience in the initiation, development and implementation of programs, procedures and policies that foster resilience in children and young people and address their physical, social and emotional needs to support their educational needs.
  • Capacity to provide leadership within a multidisciplinary team delivering a range of wellbeing support services to school students
  • Highly developed capacity to assess, conceptualise and analyse more complex student wellbeing issues that translate to improving student support services
  • Highly developed communication, networking and interpersonal skills including the ability to liaise effectively with a wide range of people in the education community and beyond.
  • Demonstrated commitment to the Victorian Public Sector Values as detailed in Organisational Values section above
Qualifications
  • A graduate or post-graduate qualification in speech pathologyor equivalent.
Other requirements
  • Registration as an occupational therapist with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA).
  • Eligibility for membership of Speech Pathology Australia.
  • A valid Working with Children Check.
  • A current Australian Drivers' Licence.
