Job summary

Haynes People in Townsville, QLD is seeking a Spray Painter to prepare surfaces and apply protective coatings to fabricated components and custom builds. You'll work with production teams to ensure a high-quality finish.

Qualifications

• Trade qualification in Automotive Refinishing (Certificate III) is advantageous.
• Manual driver’s licence required.
• Experience in automotive, industrial, or manufacturing spray painting.
• Understanding of WHS requirements, PPE use and safe handling of paints/solvents.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Responsibilities

• Prepare vehicle surfaces (sanding, cleaning, masking, priming, defect rectification).
• Spray painting and application of protective coatings to metal products.
• Accurate colour matching and paint mixing.
• Operate forklift (licenced) to move product as required.
• Quality checks to ensure finish consistency and durability.
• Maintain and safe-keep spray guns, booths, ovens and related equipment.
• Maintain clean, safe work areas and interpret job sheets within timeframes.

What You’ll be Doing

• Prepare vehicle surfaces including sanding, cleaning, masking, priming and defect rectification

• Accurate colour matching and paint mixing
• Operate forklift (where licenced to operate) to move product as required
• Quality checks to ensure finish consistency and durability
• Safe operation and upkeep of spray guns, booths, ovens and related equipment
• Maintaining clean, organised, and safe work areas
• Interpreting job sheets and completing tasks within required timeframes

About You

To be successful in this role, you will have:

• Manual driver’s licence (Required)
• Trade qualification in Automotive Refinishing (Certificate III) – highly advantageous
• Forklift Licence – highly advantageous
• Experience in automotive, industrial, or manufacturing spray painting
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team
• Understanding of WHS requirements, PPE use and safe handling of paints/solvents
