Job summary

BHP is seeking a Specialist Mining Engineer to join the Short Term Planning team at Mt Arthur Coal in the Hunter Valley. You will develop mine designs and schedules, managing planning projects and collaborating with operations to optimise production while upholding safety standards.

The role focuses on translating strategic planning into practical outcomes, supporting the mine plan execution and driving continuous improvement in planning processes.

Qualifications

• Tertiary qualification in Mining or Civil Engineering.
• Experience in open‑cut mining operations, preferably coal.
• Experience in mine planning, scheduling, and drill and blast integration.
• Proficiency in Deswik, Vulcan and SPRY or equivalent scheduling software.
• Strong Excel skills and collaborative approach with stakeholders.

Responsibilities

• Develop safe, practical excavation and dump designs.
• Prepare and optimise short-term mine schedules to support operations.
• Manage mine planning projects from concept to implementation.
• Collaborate with operational, technical and leadership teams to meet planning objectives.
• Communicate planning outcomes and project updates to stakeholders.
• Conduct plan reconciliation and performance analysis to improve accuracy.
