Solutions Architect (Networking & Infrastructure) - SMB

About the Role

We're seeking an experiencedSolutions Architectto lead the design and positioning of networking, infrastructure, cloud, and security solutions for Small and Medium Business (SMB) clients.

You will work closely with sales teams, technical specialists, and clients to understand business challenges, develop fit-for-purpose solutions, and guide opportunities from discovery through to solution sign-off. This role combines technical architecture, presales consulting, client engagement, and solution design, with a strong focus on networking technologies and managed services.

Key Responsibilities

Solution Design & Presales

• Lead technical discovery workshops to understand client business objectives, existing environments, challenges, and future requirements.

• Design commercially viable and technically sound solutions across networking, infrastructure, cloud, and security domains.

• Develop solution architectures, Bills of Materials (BoMs), statements of work, effort estimates, and high-level implementation approaches.

• Own the technical solution throughout the sales lifecycle, from qualification and solution development through to proposal presentation and approval.

• Partner with Sales, Service Delivery, and Engineering teams to scope, price, and position managed services and project-based solutions.

• Respond to RFPs, RFIs, and tender submissions with accurate and compelling technical content.

• Present proposed solutions to technical stakeholders, business leaders, and executive decision-makers.

Networking Architecture

• Design and recommend LAN, WAN, and SD-WAN solutions aligned to client requirements and service catalogue offerings.

• Architect secure remote access solutions, including VPN, Zero Trust Network Access (ZTNA), and enterprise wireless networks.

• Evaluate and recommend networking technologies across vendors such as Cisco, Fortinet, Juniper, Meraki, and Aruba.

• Develop scalable network designs that support performance, resilience, security, and business growth.

• Provide technical leadership on networking best practices, standards, and solution roadmaps.

BasicInfrastructure & Virtualisation

• Design on-premises and hybrid infrastructure solutions for SMB clients.

• Architect virtualisation platforms, primarily VMware vSphere and related technologies.

• Design compute, storage, and high-availability solutions that meet operational and business requirements.

• Develop infrastructure capacity planning recommendations and technology roadmaps.

• Define backup, business continuity, and disaster recovery solutions with clear Recovery Time Objectives (RTOs) and Recovery Point Objectives (RPOs).

BasicCloud Solutions

• Design hybrid and multi-cloud solutions leveraging Microsoft Azure and AWS.

• Advise clients on cloud adoption, migration, and modernization strategies, including lift-and-shift, re-platforming, and re-architecting approaches.

• Develop cloud landing zones, identity integration, governance, and security recommendations.

• Provide guidance on Microsoft Entra ID (Azure AD), identity management, and cloud security best practices.

• Support cloud-based infrastructure, networking, backup, and disaster recovery solution design.

BasicSecurity Architecture

• Incorporate security-by-design principles into all proposed solutions.

• Design architectures that align with Zero Trust security frameworks.

• Develop recommendations covering multi-factor authentication (MFA), privileged access management (PAM), identity security, and secure remote access.

• Ensure solutions align with security, compliance, and risk management requirements.

Client & Strategic Engagement

• Build trusted advisor relationships with technical stakeholders, business leaders, and executive decision-makers.

• Present solution recommendations, business cases, and technology roadmaps to client audiences.

• Contribute to the ongoing development of solution frameworks, service offerings, and reference architectures.

• Stay current with emerging technologies, vendor roadmaps, and managed service provider (MSP) industry trends.

• Provide technical leadership and knowledge sharing across internal teams.

Required Experience & Qualifications

• Proven experience as a Solutions Architect, Infrastructure Architect, Presales Consultant, or Senior Systems/Network Engineer.

• Strong networking expertise across LAN, WAN, SD-WAN, VPN, wireless, routing, switching, and network security solutions.

• Experience designing solutions using technologies from vendors such as Cisco, Fortinet, Juniper, Meraki, and Aruba.

• Hands-on experience with VMware vSphere and virtualised infrastructure environments.

• Good understanding of Microsoft Azure and/or AWS cloud platforms.

• Experience designing hybrid infrastructure, cloud migration, and modern workplace solutions.

• Ability to develop BoMs, solution designs, technical proposals, and effort estimates.

• Experience presenting technical concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

• Strong commercial awareness with the ability to balance technical outcomes and business requirements.

• Excellent stakeholder management, communication, and consulting skills.

Preferred Experience & Qualifications

• Experience working within a Managed Services Provider (MSP) or Systems Integrator environment.

• Industry certifications such as:

  • Cisco (CCNP or equivalent)

  • Fortinet NSE / FCSS

  • VMware VCP

  • Microsoft Azure Certifications

  • AWS Associate or Professional Certifications

• Experience with Zero Trust, ZTNA, and modern cybersecurity architectures.

• Exposure to Microsoft 365, Entra ID, and modern workplace technologies.

• Experience supporting SMB and mid-market clients across diverse industries.
