Job summary

Calleo in Canberra is seeking a Solution Infrastructure Engineer to join a Federal Government project. You will design and deliver robust infrastructure across on-prem, virtualised, networking and cloud environments, shaping roadmaps and modernisation initiatives.

You will work with architects, vendors and stakeholders to ensure solutions meet strategic objectives, maintain resiliency and support mission-critical services. Applicants must hold NV1 security clearance.

Qualifications

• Designing and delivering enterprise infrastructure solutions in large, complex environments.
• Strong infrastructure architecture and solution design experience.
• Experience with Windows and/or Linux server infrastructure.
• Experience with virtualization (VMware/Hyper-V).
• Hybrid cloud environments (Azure and/or AWS).
• Experience developing infrastructure roadmaps and strategic technology plans.
• Strong HA, disaster recovery and resiliency design.
• Experience producing architecture and engineering documentation (HLSDs, DLDs, technical specifications, ADRs, SOPs).
• Scripting and automation with PowerShell, Python, Bash, Terraform or Ansible.
• Excellent stakeholder engagement & communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Develop and maintain technology infrastructure roadmaps aligned with organisational ICT strategies.
• Provide expert advice on infrastructure lifecycle management, emerging technologies and investment opportunities.
• Identify opportunities to reduce technical debt, optimise infrastructure costs and improve business outcomes.
• Design enterprise-grade infrastructure, networking and virtualisation solutions.
• Lead infrastructure modernisation, technology refresh and consolidation initiatives.
• Develop HLSDs, DLDs and technical specifications.
• Validate disaster recovery, failover and business continuity solutions.
• Produce operational designs, runbooks, standards and supporting documentation.
• Review infrastructure health, performance and capacity metrics and recommend improvements.
• Conduct PoCs and evaluate vendor solutions.
• Provide knowledge transfer and support seamless transition to operational teams.
• Engage effectively with stakeholders, translating complex technical concepts into business language.

Our client, one of the Federal Government Departments, is seeking an experienced Solution Infrastructure Engineer to join a high-performing technology team responsible for the design, modernisation and ongoing evolution of critical enterprise infrastructure platforms.
This is an exciting opportunity for a senior infrastructure professional with strong architecture and design experience to influence strategic technology outcomes, develop infrastructure roadmaps, and deliver resilient, scalable solutions that support business-critical services.

About the Role

Working within a complex enterprise environment, you will be responsible for designing and delivering robust infrastructure solutions across on-premises, virtualised, networking and cloud environments. You will play a key role in infrastructure transformation initiatives including technology refreshes, system consolidation, resiliency improvements and legacy platform decommissioning.
You will collaborate closely with architects, operational teams, vendors and business stakeholders to ensure infrastructure solutions align with strategic objectives while maintaining operational excellence.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop and maintain technology infrastructure roadmaps aligned with organisational and ICT strategies.

• Review infrastructure health, performance and capacity metrics and recommend improvements.Conduct proof-of-concepts (PoCs) and evaluate vendor solutions.
• Provide knowledge transfer and support seamless transition to operational teams.
• Engage effectively with technical and non-technical stakeholders, translating complex technical concepts into business-friendly language.

Essential Skills & Experience

• Demonstrated experience designing and delivering enterprise infrastructure solutions within large and complex environments.
• Strong infrastructure architecture and solution design experience.
• Excellent knowledge of:
  • Server infrastructure (Windows and/or Linux)
  • Virtualisation technologies (VMware, Hyper-V or similar)
  • Enterprise networking concepts
  • Storage and backup platforms
  • Hybrid cloud environments (Azure and/or AWS)
• Experience developing infrastructure roadmaps and strategic technology plans.
• Strong understanding of high availability, disaster recovery and resiliency design.
• Experience producing architecture and engineering documentation including:
