City of Melbourne is seeking an experienced Solution Architect - Cloud and Infrastructure to lead the future direction of our cloud and infrastructure landscape. Solution Architect - Cloud and Infrastructure

The City of Melbourne is seeking an experienced Solution Architect - Cloud and Infrastructure to lead the future direction of our cloud and infrastructure landscape. This is a highly influential architecture role that will play a critical part in delivering our cloud-first strategy, modernising infrastructure platforms, and guiding the transition of key technology services into AWS.

Reporting to the Enterprise Architect, you'll provide strategic leadership across cloud, infrastructure, security, platform services and architecture governance. Working closely with senior leaders, project teams and technology specialists, you'll help design and deliver scalable, secure and resilient technology solutions that support one of Australia's most innovative and digitally ambitious local governments.

A little more about the role

Lead the development of enterprise cloud and infrastructure architecture roadmaps, standards and reference architectures.

Shape and govern the City of Melbourne's AWS cloud strategy and infrastructure modernisation initiatives.

Provide expert advice and thought leadership to executive stakeholders, project teams and delivery partners.

Drive architecture governance and assurance to ensure solutions align with enterprise principles, security standards and future-state technology direction.

Lead architectural planning for cloud migration, infrastructure transformation and platform optimisation programs.

Research emerging technologies and provide strategic recommendations that support innovation and long-term organisational objectives.

Collaborate across technology, data, security and business teams to deliver sustainable and future-ready architectural outcomes.

About you

You're a strategic technology professional with deep expertise across cloud and infrastructure architecture, and a passion for enabling organisations through modern technology platforms.

You bring strong stakeholder engagement skills and can confidently communicate complex technical concepts to executive and non-technical audiences alike. Equally comfortable operating at the strategic and technical levels, you're motivated by solving complex business challenges and influencing technology outcomes across a large and diverse environment.

What your experience might look like - Key Selection Criteria

Significant experience designing and governing enterprise-scale cloud and infrastructure architectures, ideally within complex organisations.

Demonstrated success leading AWS cloud transformation, infrastructure modernisation and large-scale migration initiatives.

Strong expertise across cloud platforms, infrastructure, networking, security, resilience, DevSecOps and infrastructure-as-code practices.

Experience developing architecture standards, frameworks, governance processes and strategic technology roadmaps.

Exceptional stakeholder engagement skills with the ability to influence senior leaders and drive strategic decision-making.

Experience working with AWS services, cloud security frameworks, automation tools, containerisation technologies and modern architecture practices.

Relevant tertiary qualifications in Information Technology, Computer Science or a related discipline. AWS certifications will be highly regarded.
